Again they didn’t quit and fought to the end and made the final score reasonably respectable at 69-82 after being down by as many as 27 or 29. I think the young guys learned some good lessons and began to apply them in the 2nd half when they definitely played better throughout.
Announcers had good things to say about Capel and the freshmen guards. Good words on how bigs should want to come to Pitt so they can play with the good young guards. It was a nice recruiting pitch for Capel.
It’s hard to know how much of Clemson’s utterly ridiculous 14 for 26 on 3s was due to poor Pitt defense, lack of size forcing our guys to collapse inside to protect the paint leaving the 3 ball open, and just Clemson having one of those occasional flukey unconscious shooting nights teams occasionally experience. It was probably some combination of all these things, IMHO.
Despite the loss it was nice to see the X man play so well in the 2nd half and finish with a 30 point night.
