What are your expectations for the program?

1. How many wins per year on average?
2. How many ncaa bids in a 5 year period?
3. How deep in the ncaa..how many ncaa wins over a 5 year period?
4. What sort of conference record?

I want to know..because I see people saying the the program is in the tank, do what are your expectations?

Here's mine. I am fine with missing the NCAA's a few times in 6-7 years, provided you make a run or 2. It is fun. Winning is fun. When have we had a "fun" NCAA tourney where we are shocking the world?

I know some people here prefer 22-23 wins, an NCAA tourney every year to maybe having a 15 win season and missing everything, but I would take a 14-15 win season if it also means an Elite 8 run or a run to the ACC Conf Champ game.

Fair enough.

20 wins
4-5 bids
1 trip to the elite 8 or better in 7 years, only one first round flame out every 5.
Don't get about conference record

My expectations might be absurd and aren't that much difference than Jamie, but I need more life in this program. Make it fun to follow again.

I'd be ok with similar results if we were more fun to watch and played less cupcakes.

I want to go to the Final 4. 11 different ACC teams have been to the Final 4 or multiple Final 4's since the 70's. If Wichita State, Butler, VCU, George Mason, West Virginia, etc... can go to the Final 4, dammit so can Pitt.

At the end of the day, the NCAA basketball championship is decided by the NCAA tourney. Whether that is right, fair, the true barometer of a team, that is the metric. The sole metric. Of course, to do well in the tourney, you have to get into the tourney.

But just making the tourney is not really the goal. Pitt is not competing against 200 slots of low conference, single bid conferences. They are competing against the "P5" conference plus say the Big East, the American, Mizzou Valley and West Coast. Those are the traditional conferences that get more than the champion in, where most of the "at large" bids come from. Basically being in the ACC, with Pitt's OOC schedule, all they have to do is finish at .500 in conference to get a bid.

So you do this, then go out and maybe win a game in the conference tourney, and get a berth and go out in the first rd (rd of 64) in the NCAA's, so what? Maybe that is a big deal to a TCU, but where we have been? Not so much.

Even in our best years, when has the NCAA tourney been fun? When have we done like we did a few times in the Big East tourney, where we make an impromptu run to the finals? When have we really exceeded expectations?

As I said, I will trade this last 6 years of Pitt BB for a few lower lows if it comes with a few higher highs. I want this to be fun again. Pitt BB is not fun.

1 Final Four at least within 5 years, 2 Sweet 16's

1st 2 years will be a transition so my expectations won't be that high. Year 3 will start seeing good things and 4 and 5 will be like or better than the Blair, Young and Fields teams.

We're just going to shut down the program if JD departs- is that what you want to hear?

Well...I'm seeing why most of you dislike Dixon, because your expectations for the program are basically pretty high, and IMO pretty unreasonable, especially poker who expects pitt to be Kansas.

Your EXPECTATION is to be the best team in the country within 4 or 5 years? You have no handle on reality.

-We have a $159 million dollar state of the art basketball arena, which is probably one of the Top 10-15 arena's in the entire country.

-We play in the best league in basketball

-We are 30th All Time in Ncaa Tournament Appearances

-We have 7 Big East Titles since 1987

-We have earned 2 Number 1 Seeds in the NCAA Tournament since 2009

-We have 2 Helms National Titles

-We are paying a head coach Top 15-20 money right now in the entire country

-Again, let's stop pretending Pitt is a nobody with no history. We have a good history. We have everything a Coach could want except elite name status like "Duke". So many of you are selling this program short its incredible. At this point Im starting to want Dixon to leave. Get me the hungry aggressive Coach that has the will and passion to win and wants to win big and doesnt make excuses when the team loses.

Tom Izzo- "We got flat out beat" Middle Tennessee is the better team, and we need to take it like men"

Jamie Dixon- "We have to rebound better. If we got more rebounds we would of won. I am going to try to figure out why we missed so many rebounds and lost the game"

I am living in Bizarro World. The Warriors are good, the Lakers are terrible, MSU lost in the first round, Trump poll numbers go up by talking about how big his pecker is, and Jamie Dixon's accomplishments are being listed as support for running him out of town.

Yep. The reason pitt is where it is in his numbers is mostly due to Dixon.

Just wow.

For what Pitt offers,

-A 5 year run including an NIT, CBI, and 1 NCAA Tournament win over 5 years is flat out unacceptable and embarrassing.

Maybe Mexico can pay for the buyout.

The chances of making a run in the NCAAs are less if you are in the tournament less frequently. I don't understand people saying they would go less frequently if they could make any occasional run. The goal has to be to get there.

Nah, for UPitt129 it's outstanding.

As usual, you can't comprehend what I have said. It is slightly above average for a p5 school. I'd like better, but it isn't a period I fire the coach for.

You have stated you expect pitt to be in the level of Kansas, duke, and unc. Enough said about your ability to think rationally.

Agreed.

I'd like to see us consistently in the top 5-6 in the ACC, back to the level where the round of 16 becomes the norm again. To me, what we did this year should constitute a slightly down year. More than anything, I'd like to see us back to the level where we can compete with anyone in the country and be a threat to make deep runs in both the ACC tournament and the big dance. I never felt like we had much of a chance to do much damage and haven't felt that way since the CBI year, mainly because of our talent level. I'm not saying Jamie can't get us back to that level, I just think that is where we need to be.

Begin to reestablish a recruiting plan and track so PITT has a steady stream of solid players that fit the PITT system
Win at the Pete to get attendance back to historical levels
Compete with the top teams and beat the teams we should beat
Reestablish our national reputation which is damaged and here's the example.
PITT beats Cuse 3x's yet the pundits, tourney forecasters, the committee puts Cuse in a similar place as PITT. That signals no trust in PITT but huge trust in CUSE. Someone needs to change that!

I agree with Captain Murphy:
5-6 in the ACC maybe higher.
Round of 16 more often than the one and out games
Getting to the Round of 16 gives the wild card of play a great next game and who knows!
One and out is like when you play golf and all your putts are short no chance!

Bob, can I get a ruling on this post?

Here's a ruling:: You open a thread designed to elicit a response that you can ridicule.
You then state to a poster "you are out of your mind.", and again, "You can't comprehend...", and then, "Enough said about your ability to think rationally."
When you are answered in the same vein as your multiple insults, you run to mommy because your feelings are hurt. When you insult someone be prepared to receive insults in return.. Act like a man.

Lol, I don't really care about being insulted, so you just wasted a bunch of words.

I think this an important part. I think we need to worry less about recruiting stars and more about good fits.

If Jamie stays, I think they need to throw a boatload at an Associate HC with HC experience (someone along the lines of Lutz at NC State or Sidney Lowe under Sendek before him). I know nothing about the fit, but Bruiser Flint seems like the kind of candidate we should be looking at.
