I am a fundamental kinda guy and JD always had teams that were fundamentally sound. However, the past few years have been a different story. Mia is the only player on this team who knows how to set a proper screen. If you look back at the first start he got vs Duq. guys were wide open coming off screens set by Mia through the post and out to the wing. One of the reasons they shot so well in that game. I like to watch the games I attend away from the ball to see what is going on and there is a huge difference when Mia is not in the game. Watching anyone else: Odo, Jeter, Young, Luther, set screens is like watching a high school team. They simply cannot do it, won't do it, or don't have big enough bodies to do it, (Luther). This team will continue to struggle offensively because everyone in the league can play defense and when we don't get open looks and the shot clock is running down, there is nobody out there to set a perimeter, high ball screen to free up the guy with the ball. Back in the day, it was beautiful to watch Gary Magee set a screen for Wannamaker with 10 seconds on the shot clock and Wanny going to the basket for a pull up or passing off to someone for an easy basket. In my humble opinion, that is why this offense struggles so much, and has in the past few years and will continue to. It seems the high ball screen is no longer even part of the offense and I don't know if JD just doesn't believe in it anymore or knows he has nobody who can set one. Not sure but it is very puzzling to me also considering that everyone else does it and we can't defend it.
