Us Pitt fans, folks, are quite a special breed. We're a persistent, resilient bunch. We've been kicked between the legs more often than healthy; we've been heartbroken more often than should be allowed. Yet, we all seemingly realize that, provided/when we finally do win and overachieve, it'll truly be an even more special feeling than maybe other fans would have in different cities.
So, obviously every Pitt fan wants Pitt to win. Clearly. But, what do I want perhaps even more? I want to be f'n relevant. I want to turn on Gameday and have a 10 minute segment that actually breaks down what Narduzzi has done to this defense and perhaps even interviews some players. I want, when announcers are discussing Notre Dame's remaining schedule, them to actually say, "ND has a game Pitt team to contend with first. They shouldn't be looking past them." I want Pitt to be mentioned w/ respect, an identity. I want to listen to Verne Lundquist announce one of our bowl games and actually know which Pitt players play under which jersey numbers. I want Pitt to mean something other than a school that gets mentioned in relation to where a great player in the NFL went to college. Those are great...but I want the *school* to get the publicity, not just the individual player. I want to f'n pull for this team and actually expect to dominate another team. I want to talk shit on other schools....and not be doing it based on a lie or empty chest-thumping.
Finally. I want to F up Penn State.
