What is it with penn state coaches? Gymnastics coach harassed players?

Difficult to say, but back in the day this was never an issue. Not anywhere. That type of stuff never made me play better but it was common...at least in men's sports.
This coach punched me (me in pads) during freshman football. Maybe it was my day....but it was all I could do to stop from asking if he was serious. That stuff and the verbal taunting was par for the course in the 70's.

Into today's Social Media, that kind of abuse is less and less, and anyone caught on video doing it, is toast. UVA's Al Groh used to pick one Player after the game that was given a Baloney Sandwich instead of a Team Meal for playing poorly or at practice. This was reported and he was gone soon afterwards it came out. Mangino, Leach, and others have lost jobs too on verbal and psyche abuse to motivate.

Rene Portland, their successful basketball coach, was forced out for openly discriminating against lesbians, or even anyone who she thought looked like one. The history for female athletes at PSU has been a rough one, and continues.

You're forgetting a couple others.

The fencing coach (swords, not lawn maintenance) was fired and settled a wrongful termination suit against the university. That was because he allegedly tried to cover-up a team member smoking weed, err, holding a rolled up piece of tape.

Women's hockey coach (when it was still a club sport but they new they were going full varsity) was alleged to be playing favorites and acting abusive toward team members. Funny comment from a Collegian article about the whole situation because it was happening right about the time the whole football scandal went down....
“You have to remember the first year that this happened, that was the football scandal too,” she added. “We have public relations people coming into our locker room telling us no one from the athletic department can talk to anybody about the football scandal — ‘if a women’s hockey player made a comment, the media could misconstrue it as being from the athletic department’s view,’ stuff like that. All this other shit is going on.”

Some of the football coaches did something too... I cant recall exactly though

Although... Penn state did dismiss those coaches, so I think that means all is OK.

Yeah.... that IS THE POINT. It happens there more than other places. You dont say, hey just walk down that dark alley, you may get robbed but that kinda thing happens everywhere, just more prevalent in dark alleys. Or who cares if I drink or drive? Car accidents happen everywhere and to sober people too, so what is the difference?

Unless you go to Plum high school, seems like these things are more prevalent at state penn

Aside from outright evils like sex-abuse (e.g. Sandusky stuff) all this other stuff is just a symptom of the wussification of america--a once great nation now in total decline.
