What is Your List for Pitt’s New Coach?

1.) I want someone who this is their first P5 job. Hungry and desperate unlike Capel and Stallings.

2.) No brothers on staff.

3) Some experience actually buildimg a program is preferred which is a knock against a guy like Valentine. Although at the end of the day a good coach is a good coach.

We don’t need to win the press conference this time. We need to win games.
Stallings didn't win the press conference though.

This is the longest we’ve gone in one of these new coach threads without someone mentioning Andy Toole, I am thankful for that.

Medved checks all the boxes for me, guy has shown he can win, being from the Minneapolis area with the talent they produce doesn’t hurt either.

Yeah and Pitino and Miller came off the board in the first few posts

Sad to say I am at the point I would consider Pitino, no interest in either of the Millers.

Will also add that people were saying last year they wished Pitt had hired Keith Dambrot, at least we don’t have to hear that crap anymore.

Pitt has never gone out and hired a good coach in its history. It doesn’t care to.

The Nike guy, Vacarro, gift wrapped the school Howland, who brought Dixon. Without Sonny, Pitt never hires a guy like Ben or Jamie.

Pitt hoops will never be good like the 2000s in my lifetime, and I’m 48.

The current coach hasn’t recruited one good shooter in four years. Un-freaking-believable. He just makes excuses like losers do.

Keep Narduzzi happy!

For what it's worth, the Capel hire seemed really good on paper.

Did you like it?

I thought it seemed like a really strong hire. And I thought what he did with recruiting in his first 6 weeks was very impressive. Where I started to become a little concerned were the struggles he had recruiting after his first full year.

Voccarro took a lot of credit for stuff he really had no dealing with. Are we sure he delivered Holland to Pitt? Or did he just jump on the pile when Pitt got good and said “I did that” because he was with adidas at the time?

What about Schmidt? He would get this program stabilized and even get us in the top 25 after a couple of years. Then he moves on and we get a splash hire.

I was so unimpressed with Schmidt when he was a candidate. But now that his stock has gone up, he might not consider coming here.

If you're going to pay a $15 million buyout, it doesn't make sense to hire a no-name and play in front of no fans for a couple more years and hope he wins eventually.

I think you have to hire a guarantee:

1. Pitino
2. Miller (though I realize half the board thinks all his Sweet 16s and Elite 8s makes him one of the worst coaches in the country since he was at a big program)
3. Buzz Williams

If we don't hire a guarantee, then the only 2 guys I would be ok with are Medved and Odom since they're at the high major level already.
Hire buzz Williams and know he always has one foot out the door.

The buyout is not 15 million.

Maybe something is lingering in this that can reduce the buyout?

Maybe Heather could hire an investigator to look thru Coach Capel’s entire tenure for some fire for cause leverage? Emails, text message, receipts, anything.

Surely he has to have done something we can leverage.

Nothing should be off limits or beyond norms when it comes to reducing the buyout. He has been stealing his money. His program (mansion) is in ruins.

I’m sure that would do wonders in drawing a good coach to a bottom feeding program.

Hey look if things don’t work out they’re gonna dig deep and try to gin something up and eff me. Should make it even more attractive.
Capel took the job under those circumstances. It was attractive enough for him.

Comparing a coach who won a National title and got fired with fake stuff because they wanted Hurley is quite different than the situation we’re in.

When he was hired I was surprised and thought given the situation he was pretty much the best Pitt could do.

The situation after Stallings was that toxic, I knew from watching for years that Capel was a below average gameday coach but thought he would recruit well enough to make Pitt competitive.

I was wrong, and he’s been here long enough to show me that the sooner they cut ties with him the better or it will just continue to get worse. He needs to go at the end of the season, there’s just no other way to look at it.

There were strong rumors of Capel being crooked at both Oklahoma and Duke.

People who are crooked seldom ever change.

Pitt should have investigators look into our recruitment of Efton Reid.

If they find anything amiss, they have no choice but to self report.

I see nothing wrong in using our coaches efforts to make our team better against him if it helps Heather reduce the buyout.
