Not making a poll.

Just feel like we're at a crossroads, like Homer Simpson read about in Indonesia. Three straight years of improved records -- but the possibility for five straight losing seasons ranging from misery to mediocrity and little recruiting optimism and late season collapses.

I could see a Pitt NCAA tournament team with Justin Champagine next year. And a fourth straight year of improvement in record. And a coaching staff staying on. Or I could see him go to the NBA and a .500 (overall, not acc) team spell the end of this coaching staff's graces with ther AD.

So I put the % high, like 60%.

That seems about right, I may even go higher. His decision could impact Toney's decision also. If Champagnie comes back, Toney may come back and they could get to the tournament. If he leaves, Toney may transfer and try to win somewhere.

So Champagnie's decision could be the difference between the NCAA Tournament and 3-17.

I don't think Justin is going to the NBA, I think he was the beneficiary of early season hype. Bigger question is what is going on in the locker room and will there be transfers and what will recruiting be for next year.

I like a core in two years of Femi/Jeffress/Coulibaily/Horton/Champ but what happens next year and who is coming in behind them.

Does X and /or Toney return?

I think some of this is the last minute class of Toney/X/Trey was a need influx of talent at the time, but I think the staff sacrificed on some of the intangibles they look for as evidenced by the maturity issues noted by so many other posts.

I don't know if we see more addition by subtraction next year? with X or Toney moving on. I am not hoping for this as I think we are a way better team with both of them back as seniors next year, but they past 3 years have shown what they provide as far as leadership.

I don't know what the answers are, I still think Capel is the right guy to lead us back, though I am starting to question that for the first time based on his on-court antics, his players are a direct reflection of his actions toward referees. That worked sitting on Duke's bench with Coach K. Not so much at Pitt.

I am also questioning it because of his public comments criticizing his players, not saying it isn't fair or deserved just don't think you do that publicly to college players. Stallings got slammed when that happened here and his comments weren't nearly as pointed as Capel's last night.

Here's hoping for a strong season finish but history indicates otherwise.

I think Johnson leaving could be addition by subtraction if Toney and Champagnie stay

Then you are an idiot. Johnson is the most important player on this team. Unless they added a really, really good PG, it would not be addition by subtraction.

He is far too inconsistent but we can only win when he plays well. Its probably time to cut him loose and try to develop Femi into "the guy."

I'm not so convinced that they'd make the tournament even with Champagnie back. They're nowhere close this year with him, what changes with one more year of experience?

The forecast for next year depends more on whether HCJC can get any decent recruits and transfers more than whether Champ returns.

I dont think its a lock they make it but if everyone comes back, I think they'd be a bubble team right there at the end.
