What the heck happened to the Pitt defense the 1st half of the season??

Well no excuses, they have been bad. But I think we're seeing the coaching staff can only do so much. This is still most of the same defense from last year, which was the worst unit in sports I've ever seen. I think it's fair to say the defense is bad, but still significantly improved from last year's mess.

True but they were really playing super well for a while and now it seems like they have gone totally backwards. What is more concerning is the big plays they keep giving up much more frequently.

Oh believe me, I still think it's very worrisome. But also the competition has gotten a lot better. Going up against really talented offenses when you're not very good defensively, it's hard to mask the lack of talent in those situations.

I believe Scarp is also out. So on top of lack of talent, very little depth there today.

Playing better offenses, but teams got film on our secondary and one-on-one our current secondary (especially corners) are very challenged right now.

I'm shocked Duke doesn't have 30 points already. Odd score with how bad our defense is looking. Can't keep giving up huge plays on 3rd down, or any down for that matter.

I can. See last season. Specifically the Duke and UNC games and the Houston debacle. That's how bad it would be without him.
