Yea. Its going to be Ryan Odom. That's a no brainer. If Capel gets to the tournament again, I wouldn't be shocked to see him being a candidate somewhere but it would have to be a lateral move. UVa won the natty a few years ago and with their recruiting base in the DMV, have to be considered a major step up from Pitt. Like maybe VT??? VCU??? Wake Forest???Those are places to keep an eye on.

So if he could make an 0-19 team a bubble team, maybe he could get a former natty winner who is now mediocre to a quicker turn around. I know people here are upset that Pitt isn’t a national contender, and think Capel sucks at coaching. While both may be true, he also should get some credit for bringing Pitt out of the grave, even if it took longer than some here liked. He also lost one of the best 3 pt shooters in the game and a 1st round guard. Likely overachieving this year…

I do think Capel would leave for a lateral or better job if he was given the chance. New Chancellor. New AD. Fans still not filling The Pete. That said, I dont expect that a lateral or better job will offer him. Keep an eye on VT I guess. UVa will get someone bigger.

Capel can recruit. He can't coach. He's a good, likeable guy but I don't want him playing X's and O's on the bench. Let someone else do that.

Stallings had Pitt humming at 16-17 his first season on the job after they went a paltry 6-21 in 1976. He should have had his salary doubled on the spot and been given a lifetime contract and the keys to the city. 10-game improvement in year one!

Someone actually knows ball.
I get frustrated with our offense at times, since I’d like more set plays using screens to get our best shooters looks

But , Capel does make some very good defensive adjustments.

VT has no interest to compete in NIL era of basketball. Only football.

To be honest, if he got the the tournament and left, he did his job. He elevated the program and got us respectable.

Would be up to Athletic Director Big Foot (only hear about him, never see him) to take the hoops program a step further. And one thing we have going for us is you know we’re going to pay top 25 money

He's a good, likeable guy

Very knowledgeable about the ins and outs of college basketball....but the larger part of the Pitt fans I know think part of the problem is that he is not all that likeable, he and that "Re-name the Dean Smith Center after Me " brother of his could stand a few classes about acting as first class guys.
