When will Pitt add a GM?

With the “salary cap” era of college football starting this coming year, it seems like it’s a matter of when, not if, all P4 programs will have a top administrator. UNC obviously went out and hired a former NFL GM, while others are probably just going to elevate someone already in their program.

Any rumblings on what Pitt may do?

I said he’d be perfect for the role, not that he would accept the role. :)
What makes him perfect ?
It’s not like we have a huge NIL budget that’s tough to navigate .
Seems most of our NIL is from private company sources.

Pat gets paid plenty - he should be able to handle
It himself .

A couple things stand out to me:
  • NFL front office experience, meaning he’d be able to handle the financial side of roster construction in the NIL era + any player scouting
  • ESPN personality = high school prospects are familiar with him. Not to mention he’s a great ambassador of the university and could sell our program well (both to recruits and donors)
  • Industry connections could help with filling any coaching staff openings
Again, I don’t think he’d actually accept, but he’d be my pie-in-the-sky GM candidate, kind of like Aaron Donald would be for DL Coach. But I do disagree about not needing a GM; we’re trending to the point where it’s a necessity to have one. It’d be like running an NFL franchise without a front office.
