I dined at the Mellow Mushroom in Aiken, SC last Spring. Not bad actually, semi-decent craft beer selection as well.

I think it was founded in Decatur, GA...a few miles away. At least I was the end at a real hole in the wall Mellow Mushroom about 40 years ago before it became a chain.

Most pizza places in south are not very good. They have done a good job selling mediocre pizza to people who don't know any better (which is why Trump does better in the south but I digress... Up north is a whole other animal for a pizza chain.

With all of the publicity from the ACC Network, Bojangles would be foolish not to at least test the waters here. I mean, they've been running commercials for years now...I'm sure a location in Oakland would do well.

I think I first ate (DRANK) at a Mellow Mushroom in 1998 in Atlanta. Mellow Mushroom has great pizza, especially their mushroom pizza. And always a good beer selection. They mostly have places in college towns in the South. But they do have a franchise outside of Columbus.

But I think it started in Atlanta, at the one I visited, back then was a Steeler bar/Pittsburgh friendly place, so I am not sure but the originators maybe yinzers.

Giuseppe's sucked this year. Haven't found a good pizza on Hilton Head yet. Pittsburgh doesn't need another chain pizza joint, with all the good to great places to get pizza here that are privately owned. Shit, people still eat at pizza hut, not to mention subcrap.

Having said all that... I have a Mellow Mushroom about 2 miles away...one thing that the south lacks and I think would do well here in Ga is Rita's Italian ice.... that would make a Killing here but none to be found

Mellow Mushroom is a very large chain. Mostly south of Pennsylvania although they are in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and New Jersey. Big in Florida. Pretty good as pizza chains go.
