He's had a great year at Safety but too many of his tackles are 5, 6, 10 yards downfield. We've given up too many big plays vertically. I'd start Webb and Mitchell at Safety and Whitehead at CB with either Maddox or Hamlin if he comes here. I think Whitehead is more valuable as a potential shut-down corner.

I also think he needs to play offense regularly as a slot WR. Maybe 20 plays oer game.

I do like the idea of JW at corner. He almost seems undersized at safety (at least right now) Guess it depends on how much more weight he or the coaches want him to put on and if they think corner is a pressing need?

No way.......he is the most naturally gifted safety at Pitt since Carlton Williamson....And it is a position for which so many different options are available with the type of size and speed he will bring to that position over the next two years.

But yes he should get about 15 snaps a game in the slot and run t h e Wildcat..that ain't gonna happen with a corner on the island

You can't expect a starting corner to run 20 additional snaps a game; that's absurd.

Chris Gamble did that at OSU. Whitehead is a Pro Bowl type talent. He can do it.

Dude, safeties make tackes downfield ...

The dropoff from him at s to what they have otherwise is just as, if nit greater than cb.

Meanwhile, the closer to the ball he is, the better.

Aside from 2002 when he x started on offense at times...his O numbers were minimal
Poor comparison
Have you ever seen JW PLAY corner?

You won't either....
He is going to be the Be s t Safety at Pitt in35 yrs

If you watch game film of Whitehead, you'll see him making plays all over the place. At the LOS, in the second level area where the LBs make a living, and in the secondary. Many of those plays he's making 5-6 yards off the LOS occur when we run blitz the LBs, which is often, and Whitehead's sure tackling in the LB hole saves us from getting gashed.

I have no doubt that if we moved him to corner, he'd be our best CB. I also have no doubt that he's playing strong safety for a reason. Narduzzi has said on numerous occasions that he doesn't want to think about where we'd be without him there this year. He makes a ton of plays that nobody else would make. I think we can fully trust Dooz amd Conklin to use him the best way possible on defense.

He has done a great job this year covering up for the fact that our linebackers aren't all that good.

All of these points are very good points actually.
I actually agree to leave him at safety since he can control the d more from there. I also think 20 snaps would make him worn out, but I don't know that so the best answer is to let him try it and see. Without Boyd next year we need a big playmaker. I think Hudson would also be a good one to replace Boyd as an athletic offensive force. Saying if we get this guys. Hudson, hamlin, wade... etc... we can have each play 10 snaps a game on offense.

i see him at safety or corner next year. depends on who else we bring in. for example, hamlin and hudson.
