he who is without sin........ Loo'ville just had their BB program changed with four major violations ( related the strippers and the like ). knowing petrino, somewhere out in the distance you see as yet unidentified trouble gathering momentum. it's not his fault it just follows him around. miami is just one hot steamy mess just waiting for some other athletic escapade to rear its ugly head. the only reason that Miami is not on the death watch is because the NCAA totally blew their investigation related to the Shapiro fiasco. i'm not certain that the fix was not in because Miami athletics- football- is too big to fail. north Carolina's corruption is so large and pervasive that I don't think the NCAA has the intelligence/will to carry out a sustained, comprehensive, investigation-and carry it out to its logical prosecution/disposition. again, the tarheel program is too big to fail. Clemson......well.......what can I say- that you haven't heard before. when will history repeat itself.

somehow FSU, has so far been able to make sanctioning bodies look the other way when comes to overlooking the ongoing continuing arrest record of their athletes. local police in Gainesville are too scared to act.

the rambling wrecks, cavaliers, BC eagles,(some degree pitt) have been so distracted with coaching turnover/losing that it's hard to cheat because no one is there long enough to get anything started. the "cuse's" basketball program is a total sham as it relates to the (suspected) goals of college athletics . their football program.....see above.

again, your judged by the company you keep.

Pitt is/are horrible cheaters. With any decent cheating, you would think we would have a positive outlier type year.

What did the Golden Panthers do wrong? My understanding is that by Miami, SMU, USC, UNC, FSU, OSU, Florida, Auburn, etc standards we did absolutely nothing. It was more a case of there wasn't enough glory to spread around internally.......

it's almost dumb to not cheat.. Look at the pros and cons, such low risk for such high reward..
Exactly, Pitt's in the back row of the audience every year bragging about how we don't cheat, while Saban and 'Bama are at the podium being handed the trophy, over and over and over!

As a Younger fan (36 years old now 10-13 y.o. when the GP was around) I would like to know what the story is here to.

Basically they exerted too much control outside of the Athletic Departments influence. During the hey days of the late 70's and early-mid 1980's they provided no show,no work jobs, nice cars and apartments and regular $100 handshakes....but everybody did, including pious phonies like PSU. They got int o some deep sh*t when their President Bob Heddleston was caught using GP funds to apply to private debts..if I remember correctly...no sure thing BTW

I made the mistake of attempting to read, and re-read the OP trying to decipher the message until I got to the line, "local police in Gainesville are too scared to act." (sic) It was then that I realized that the OP must have been drunk.

Go home and sleep it off.

Just to be clear, Bob Heddleston was a University of Pittsburgh employee. He headed up the Golden Panthers, which is todays Panther Club. His position was essentially the "chief fundraiser" for athletics. He was caught as you indicated in some financial improprieties [which included using some funds for his daughter's wedding, etc.]. He was fired, and shortly after Steve came on the scene--the Golden Panther name and organization was disbanded. I think some of the rogue stories of the GP members [Pitt donors] have taken on some urban legend qualities. Still think it is/was a far superior name to Panther Club...and Team Pittsburgh before that, etc. Hail to Pitt!

Bob Heddelston knew everybody and was very attentive to ticket holders needs. I know this since I was one of many that utilized his talents. He worked hard to get it right for the Golden Panther Members. He was a really sound organizer of tail gates and away game trips. It was a pleasure for me to have known him. I can't personally say anything against him. He was true blue and gold all the way. May he rest in peace.

I like Bobby, too....played hoops with him in an adult "Y" group.
BUT....he did divert GP $$$ to his own use. No excuse for it.
