Just a dumb thought experiment rolling around my head. I'm going to do it for the 70s to today. I'd be curious to hear people go further back too. My criteria was when you think of Pitt in that decade, who is the first person you think of? Who personifies that decade's teams? Obviously an inexact science and results may vary.
- 1970s -- Dorsett (probably the most obvious decade)
- 1980s -- Hugh Green (for me, I hear old timers talk about the defense of those teams more than anything. Marino is a close second though.)
- 1990s -- Walt Harris. Honestly, it's no one for me. The players of this decade, what little existed, just aren't talked about. And the ones that are are always couched in "they weren't that good in college" like Martin)
- 2000s -- Fitzgerald. Although Shady is a close second.
- 2010s -- Donald.
- 2020s -- Pickett so far.
