Dean of cas circa 1989. Damn near sunk Pitt football .brought in the back stabbing paul hackett Lets hope history is not repeating itself
I thought her husband was the legendary WWE/WWF Superstar Gerald. Her husband Donnie was an undercover FBI agent
People say Gottfried deserved to be fired because he had a screw loose.
Can you blame him in 1989 working with Briscoe, Posvar and Bozik?
How one university can find so many individuals who either hate athletics (Bowman, Posvar, Bozik, Brisco, J Dennis) or were just incompetent at handling it (Jaynes, Nordy, Pederson).
Circa 1997-2000, there was no money to renovate Pitt Stadium to acceptable standards and football operations were already moving off campus to the UPMC Sports Performance Complex. Not just the athletic department was struggling back then. If whatever significant money that could be raised is thrown into Pitt Stadium renovations, then there certainly would not have been a convocation center that turned into the Pete, and no Petersen Sports' Complex built behind Trees.agree, but I wouldn't say Nordy & Pederson were incompetent, They were okay and looked better because the previous admin was criminally inept. They at least breathed life into a football program that was on life support, and the hiring of Ben Howland turned things around for basketball.
The move to Heinz is the big stain on the Pederson legacy. Should have had a better plan for upper campus with stadium renovation and convocation center.
But in hindsight, would the football teams record these past 20+ years have been any better playing in a renovated Pitt stadium as oppoesed to Heinz/Acrisure?
The handling of Wannstedt and what proceeded until Narduzzi was hired was so embarrassing and was unfair to those players having so many different coaches. The timing was just so bad with the PSU scandal and actually offensive linemen and defensive backs that sprouted locally on the horizon.agree, but I wouldn't say Nordy & Pederson were incompetent, They were okay and looked better because the previous admin was criminally inept. The football record would have been, at best, the same. My guess is that even a renovated Pitt Stadium would not have impressed any serious recruits where it would have made a difference over playing in a spanking new pro stadium, particularly since the day to day football operations and practice facilities would have been the same. Basketball for sure would not have had the same experience of the 2000s so that revenue stream for the athletic department would have been greatly diminished.
The big questions is whether Pitt gets an ACC invite with its prior, absolutely substandard facilities for all of its sports, or whether it ends up in the American with UConn, or somehow is able to squeaks into the B12.
10K empty in Pitt stadium would not have looked great. It wasn't that great of an atmosphere. Downsizing to a rinky dink 45K stadium wouldn't impress anyone.the only thing that could have potentially swayed a recruit would be atmosphere. An on-campus stadium with a sold out 45K against Iowa in 2008 as opposed to 45k with swarms of empty seats in Heinz. But in the NIL era that means less & less.
Pederson 1.0 was definitely a positive. It's why I always say that it's too bad 1997 didn't happen in 1993.Pederson 2.0 left a lot to be desired. But he made the correct move in canning Wannstedt, they subsequent hires were the problem.
Revenue increases prove the move was correctagree, but I wouldn't say Nordy & Pederson were incompetent, They were okay and looked better because the previous admin was criminally inept. Amazingly, Pitt had a backup who turned out to be better suited for the West Coast offense that was installed. Yet Pitt still found a way to screw it up by firing Gottfried.Darnell Dickerson declared ineligible. That's what I remember.
Brookin saved Pitt that December of 1987 versus Bob Huggins and Akron played at the Richfield Coliseum. Pitt was down big and came back to win, 67-65, I think, due in large part to Brookin.Darnell & Rod Brookins in basketball (I think that was his name). If he was eligible we don't lose to friggin Vanderbilt and may make a run at title (Kansas had Manning and not much else but won it all). Of course Paul Evans would have still found some way to screw it up though.
True. Rod was one of my favorite players. Instant points off the bench.Darnell & Rod Brookins in basketball (I think that was his name). The Pete also doesn't get built with extra money being released by the state as part of the "Plan B" deal where Pitt agreed to move into Heinz. Pitt would likely have still been playing basketball in Fitzgerald Field House.

I’m pretty sure he settled near or around Annapolis. What ever happened to Paul Evans? A good Where are they now
ShushYou never, ever give up your only reasonable space for a football stadium. Who else does that besides Pitt?
