back in the day......but seemingly deja vu given recent developments in the NCAA.

Yep-protest early in second half forced game to be cancelled and Pitt picked up a forfeit win. Rutgers had a really good team in those days.
36-21 Pitt win at Rutgers in the Billy Knight era.

Rutgers Coach was an a--. Took his team off because he didn't like the officiating.

Because Rutgers walked and Pitt had the lead (double digits, I think) Pitt was awarded the Win.

I do not think you are correct, there was a sit-in protest by RU students that caused the end of the game

Rutgers would win something like their first 31 games 2 years later, and go to the Final Four. Rutgers was the most feared team in the early days of the Eastern 8. James Bailey was the only player I saw in college, who could absolutely dominate Sam Clancy. Sam more than held his own against many excellent big men, like Duke's Gene Banks, and of course the three years of wars against Bruce Atkins, but he couldn't do a thing with Bailey. That's when I knew he couldn't make it in the NBA, because the league was full of guys like Bailey.

Rutgers went to two sweet 16's with Bailey.....they were a good team.
He had a long and productive NBA career.

Didn't Rutgers have some kind of sit-in protest on the court back in the 60s-70s during a Pitt game?

I know I am almost a week late on this reply as I didn't see this post before.

The Rutgers game was at Rutgers during the 73 and 74 season and it was a black student protest that interrupted the game. The game was called off early in the second half and the win was given to Pitt.

For years Rutgers never acknowledged it as a Pitt win, and never showed it in their media guide as a Pitt win. Before the Big East would let them join, they were made (by the BE) to acknowledge it as a Pitt win before they were accepted..
