Who thought that losing an OT would tank a season

Dare I use the term Domino Effect? The better O-linemen get injured, leading to the starting quarterback getting injured, leading to running the ball more - but less successfully, leading to the best running back getting injured…..

The bottom line is that Pitt isn’t a Blue Blood; they don’t have the kind of depth that the Blue Bloods have. This exposes the problem of having too many 3-star players and not enough 4 & 5 star players.

I hate to break it to you but our problems are deeper then just the OT.
That is definitely where it starts. Taylor went down and we started moving our only other real lineman, Baer, around. Our Oline was pathetic and you simply can't run any kind of offense when your QB is constantly under duress on every down. We have many other problems for sure. But OL is the main one.

Real problem when one offensive line injury compels the staff to play musical chairs with the whole OL, and suddenly the OL is a complete sieve. That’s beyond a rare occurrence. Somebody made some poor judgments.

I didn't say they weren't, but losing Taylor was the catalyst for a lot of the other issue. It was the first domino to fall. After he went down Pitt began the OL shuffle, couldn't protect Eli....ending up in him getting injured repeatedly, the running game went down hill, Bart had to stay in to help block taking a huge piece out of the passing game......the defense ended up on the field for way too long because the offense couldn't sustain drives. Your condescending tone is a nice touch.

Actually, the defense was pretty much a sieve and opponents scored pretty quickly. In the SMU game they couldn’t tackle from the opening drive…this wasn’t due to fatigue but rather effort.

Anyone that's says he's the best we get, our nil is weak, college football is broken etc.
Bob,

I'm curious. What is your solution? You complain an awful lot, but you don't share any thoughts on what you would to fix it. So, tell us what you would do?

Fire Narduzzi is at the top of your list and that's fine, but what are you going to do about his contract?

If the athletic department couldn't find less than $20 million to buy out Capel's contract, who's going to buyout Narduzzi's? His contract buyout is even larger.

Then you have to hire another coach. If you want a good one, you will need even more money. Does Pitt have the resources to buyout Narduzzi's contract and hire a better coach for a lot more cash?

In addition, you need better players to win. That'll cost you even more money.

Those are not excuses, those are FACTS. It's reality.

How much are you currently donating? I'll bet nothing to very little. If you are, are you willing to double it?

So, what would you do????

Some of you live in a fantasy world of endless money and simple solutions.

First, I don't owe you an explanation but I'll play.

I have 9 clubs seats to football, 2 champions club to basketball, a member of the panther club and I donate a very small pittance $19.76 to 412 each month. (Which I have a hard time justifying with 3 kids under 13)

I also spearheaded a partnership with the university which got them an additional $50,000 per year which was mutually beneficial to my company and Pitt.

Part of that deal is another 4 club seats to football and basketball.

So as fan, that isn't an alum, I am directly responsible for over $60,000 per year. I try and ensure all my tickets are used and attend games when I can, this year I wasnt able to, but hope to get some bball.

Frankly, it's not my job to say what I would do. I don't know their financial situation nor their commitments. I don't know what donors they speak to and which ones they don't.

I do know ineffective people when I see them. Heather couldn't get football and basketball money and Narduzzi is done here. Anymore time wasted on him will just prolong the inevitable.

As far as complaining a lot. I'm a huge advocate for Capel. I've also defended Narduzzi in the past but the last two years are indefensible.

This is the big leagues, either buck up or get out of the game. If Pitt wanted to say the can't compete and move down go ahead. But if you're cashing ACC checks let's stop with the excuses and try.

So not a single suggestion in other words?

Great that you support Pitt obviously but you don’t have a single idea as to where resources would come for changes that you demand?

What could I say? Get more donors that have bigger pockets? There's money out there. It's making people feel compelled and inspired to give it. That's not my job.

Something glaringly sticks out in your post….if Baer is/was your only other real lineman, then you know you’re in big trouble.

Fair enough. Lots of good points. However, it is what it is. Just because posters don't see Narduzzi getting fired, doesn't mean they are happy. They are looking at this realistically

Money is the key unfortunately. The pressure is on Allen Greene to find more cash. If he can do that, a lot of problems could be reduced.

I'm not demanding anything.

I'm on a Pitt message board giving an opinion.

Yeah, if you are looking for root causes it's not the one lineman getting hurt that sets off all the other dominoes, it's recruiting so poorly that one injury sets off all the other dominoes that is the problem.

Every year almost every team has at least some injuries on the offensive line. The problem isn't the injury, it's not being prepared for when the inevitable comes.

Well said. With NIL money at a premium, we don’t need our limited funds to be channeled toward contract buyouts. Narduzzi proved that he can win if given the right amount of talent.

It’s too bad that the memories of Pitt’s having a very good quarterback, a great receiver, a decent O-line, and a stout defensive have already been forgotten by a portion of this board.
