Why are we still being mentioned with bigs?

We were mentioned with Grady and Kouassi and now the kid from Richmond.

We land one more guard and we are done right? Or are there other shoes to drop? Wilson? Some one else?

How close does anyone think this year's recruiting is to completion?

Dixon always seems to take the philosophy of recruiting until all spots are filled. I highly doubt we are still in with Grady or Kouassi and not actively recruiting either. However, the Richmond big man...he is a very good shot blocker, might as well toss your name in there and if there is still an opening when he is making a decision and a fit...why not?

It seems like Pitt is always willing to kick the tires when they have open slots.

I guess we could always use another big that can play but if there is only one slot available, the greater need is for a guard (particularly a guard who has a handle)

What has been said about Adonis DeLarosa? He was released from SJU and can transfer due to the coaching change. I remember Pitt was one of his final choices. The only thing I heard about him during the year was he needed to get weight down. I think Pitt needs a PG (give Newkirks surgery), but depth on the frontcourt was also an issue this year. I feel like Maia and Nix address this issue enough that pursuing a pg/sg is going to be more beneficial for the team moving forward.

Delarosa was a partial qualifier I'm pretty sure. Pitt doesn't take partial qualifiers. So, while he might be a good fit as a developmental guy, unless something changed, I don't think he can enroll here.

The need... is for someone that can spell Robinson and bring good play.

If Gibbs signs with us.... problem solved.

If not then if Wilson indeed qualifies and looks pretty good... problem solved.

If Newkirk recovers from his surgery and has a significant improvement in his play (I would not bet on this one).. problem solved.

The problem is... a lot of IFs here... and if Dixon cannot sign Gibbs.... then he should go looking for another PG that can play and spell Robinson.

They can now, the acc now allows a very limited amount, unlike the old big east which banned them.

I knew a couple schools had a kid like that but didn't know how. Didn't know the ACC had that rule. I guess we might find out but probably not till late in the summer. I think they'll hold a slot until they find out for sure that Rowan isn't coming.

And, if Josh misses 6 months and Wilson could be ineligible, you'd think they have to bring in a guard. Gibbs would fill both needs, solid play at 2 and fill in 5-10 minutes at point but I don't have any confidence he's coming here.

Newkirk's surgery likely has him out 6 months, so that takes him into Mid November.

I guess it will play out as he starts to recover, but......do you redshirt, or do you either a) hope he recovers because we lack depth or b) don't waste a redshirt year just to move him through the program faster?

I think this and Wilson's questionable qualification makes signing Gibbs more than necessary. Actually, we sign Gibbs, have a couple of big bodies and the Coppin State SG addition, this team should be a lot better than it was last year. The concerns are, what happens moving forward, because the underclassmen are mostly projects/projections.
