he took over a team that played in a BCS game and didn't qualify for a bowl 3 years in a row

losses to ohio and bowling green

3 - 0 loss to oregon state in sun bowl

never won the crap big east conference

couldn't recruit or develop a quarterback

countless blow out losses

fired 5 times in his coaching career

i just don't get the love for him, and he throws the school under the bus every chance he has gotten since he left like a bitter jilted ex lover

please explain why any of you ever loved him or think he could possibly be the teams savior now

And his recruiting is overrated. AD Dion Lewis and Shady were great and his first full class was really good but after that he was overrated. His lost class did not none of the big recruits we lost was relevant and would not have done anything for Pitt.

His time is passed and anybody asking for his return is just stirring the pot on the boards just to get people fired up....which obviously works. I do this with gullible people at work or at home all the time.

He was a good coach. He has loads of talent on the roster, but like any school not in the top 10, they had serious voids at certain positions and could never get it all lined up. He won 10 games, won enough games to get Pitt into "big games". He did all this with very little support from the university and in fact, had to work against Steve and some higher ups.

He had the program headed in the right direction, Pitt decided to change that direction and now we must pay the price. Narduzzi can get Pitt there, just be patient. It's sports, relax and enjoy it.

how do you expect anyone to enjoy what went down yesterday?

Well, i went to the game, hung out with family and friends before, during and after and the weather was great. The outcome of the game was dissapointing, but it kinda was what I expected. It definately wasn't the worst day of my life like it was for some of you.

Glad you enjoyed. Wow!

Both sides skew the facts but that was a 8-5 BCS team, lol.

My point is we went through the headache of his first couple years and he had stabilized the program. And he did do things no other coach has been able to do.

Wanny is the best coach Pitt has had since Sherrill.

Sadly this is probably correct. I always wonder what would have been if he hadn't given that conf champ game against Cincy away. And I'm not always quick to blame coaches but for me that debacle is squarely on him. With an honorable mention to the holder.

You get what you pay for , Wanny worked free, got best results for those that have since made about 15/20 million off of Pitt, and who are the dumbass's again?

Stabilized? Walt left him a stable winning program. If Wanny stabalized anything, then it is because he made the program worse.

What interference the little man syndrome people are running. Trying to tear someone down to prop up that piss poor excuse of football we watched yesterday , hope it helps those on the hill feel better. Lmao

You the guy who needs to make stuff up, and your wingman were the one pushing the Wanny topic. Not sure what the elixir is to feel better but it's not your fiction.

Right. He took a program that was not great but was stable and he screwed things up for a couple of years. And then he turned us into a program that was not great but was stable. Six years to pretty much get right back to where we were when he started.

Considering where the program was when each of them took over, Walt Harris clearly did a better job at Pitt than Wanny did.
Agree. Walt wasn't a great coach, but considering where the program was when he took over, and the success he had.
Walt was definitely better than Wanny, and under appreciated.
But he wasn't a chip-chop, fish sammich kind of guy, so...

Come on, it isn't Wannstedt specifically. It wasn't that he was great. He wasn't. He was OK but trending down. The firing of the coach at that time wasn't the issue. It was the screwups that followed. Just like parting ways with Dixon wouldn't have been an issue if an appropriate replacement had been found. Pitt messed both of those up, really badly. That's the issue. And that's why we have to advocate holding onto Narduzzi as long as possible. For one, transition kills at least a year of recruiting, but mostly, because Pitt would screw up the replacement worse.

In first for Dixon left on his own/wasn't fired.

He's teams went 27-12 his last three 3 seasons with 2 bowl wins.

Wake me up next time that happens

You will be sleeping a long time , and when you wake up, you will still hear the same excuses you are hearing right now for Pitt

Harris was handed a complete mess, and made a bowl game his 1st year. His last 3 years he went 25-13, including our only BCS appearance.

Gottfried went 27-16-2 in his 4 years. His last team finished in the Top 20.

He was the best HEAD coach we've had that I was alive to see. Narduzzi is second but until Coach gets some more wins he is still a great coordinator and the book is open. It's clear he works hard on all phases and understands what it is to be a head coach though. Something fraud, Chryst and others didn't grasps or couldn't do

Everything BradlyPitt said is spot on. Especially the part about him throwing Pitt under the bus whenever he gets a chance. He thinks he is being funny. If he loved Pitt as much as he professes he wouldn't do this. Sour grapes man

Wanny's coaching record his last three years at Pitt was 26-12. Harris' coaching record his last three years at Pitt was 25-13. They ended up in pretty much the same place, but where they started was completely different.

Harris still had very good Miami and VTech teams in the Big East during his tenure. But I guess that fact gets in the way of someone's fun tantrum and is an excuse.

One word - Yinzers!

In first for Dixon left on his own/wasn't fired.
It doesn't help the university leadership's national perception one iota to keep saying that. Everyone knows the score. The local TV sports near where I live, which isn't a Pittsburgh station, was where I actually heard that first and the wording distinctly was "Pitt has forced out coach Jamie Dixon." That echoes all the national sports news conclusions as well. But it is academic either way; the real issue was the replacement was botched.

Only in Pitt land will posters spend time arguing about this shit.

And yes I was, it was his team.

But have the last word on someone who was literally 6 coaches ago.

Well in Pitt time , that could be 6 years, we were on that time frame for coaches , one a year!

Walt was 1-11 in his last year at Stanford. But we all know you can't recruit or win at Stanford. Just ask Jim Harbaugh or David Shaw.
Walt was 25-13 his last 3 years here, and had 17 returning starters. Flacco was waiting in the wings to take the baton from Palko. Pitt should have rewarded him with a new contract with additional $ for assistants and facility upgrades. But instead they chiseled him.
