The field is turf. Games are lightly attended. What is the purpose of playing on Thursday and Friday afternoons? Games should be at 5 and 8 on Friday and 11, 2, 5, 8 on Saturday. Or here is an absolutely crazy thought. Play some games on Sunday instead of during 7th period Geometry.

Parking. Last night they probably had close to 6000 people at the game. There is simply not enough parking to overlap the game that closely. I agree they should all be played outside the school day. That why Hershey Stadium was a better venue because they have plenty of parking.

Why did the PIAA move away from Hershey? I could guess the reason, but I never heard it officially.

CV is a much better venue than Hershey. Easy travel access, plenty of parking(even during school),better lockers, etc. If you know anyone who goes there this weekend, ask them to tell you about how nice it was.

I disagree. Yes the locker rooms are better but compared to Hershey Park stadium the parking is terrible. I drove past the stadium last night on my way home from work and parking was a mess. I think the advantage to Hershey is there so much more to do and see beyond the game. I have coached games at both stadiums and agree the facilities are better at CV. Hershey Park Stadium is long over due for a complete renovation. Ideally I would love to see them renovate it and it become the host again for it.

I went by just as the game was ending, and everything was business as usual on the Carlisle Pike. Bob shellenberg(the announcer) is in his glory as CV is his home school. Ask him which venue is better. What does Hershey charge to park-$20 to 30?

They did the same thing the last few years at Hershey where there is plenty of parking so why they'd do it then?

Nice? Its a HS in Pennsyltucky. Yea, Im sure as far as high schools go, its nice but its a state championship game. I would laugh at that if someone told me how nice the state championship venue was. Its a HIGH SCHOOL and I would guess PA is the only state playing their championships at a high school.

Yeah Hersheypark stadium would be the better venue hands down if they made the upgrades. They really need new grandstands closer to the field. But there is no incentive given it’s perfectly fine for concerts and they likely don’t make much money off of the PIAA games. I don’t think anything changes unless they were to get a soccer team again.

If they want to hold it elsewhere, why not rotate it around the various PSAC schools with adequate stadiums? There are several that would be centrally located.

Do all six games have to be played at the same location? Why not play four games at Cumberland Valley and two at Hershey?

There’s not a whole lot of parking available at PSAC schools, many of which are located in the middle of nowhere.

PIAA needs to make Breezewood Sheetz Stadium a reality. 30K seats. Retractable dome, enough parking so state Championshis dont have to be played at noon on a Tuesday.

Do you always have an opinion of things of which you have no idea? CV is in the heart of the fastest growing county in Pa. Really, you need to understand things before you comment.Your references to hedging, ball screening ,etc are hilarious in the fact that they show that you know nothing about which you are posting.

Many the PSAC facilities are even worse and terrible locations. CV is much nicer and better location then any of the PSAC schools. Which one would you consider centrally located? I guess Shippensburg and Lock Haven would be the closest ones.

Why do you keep coming up with idiotic questions?

Students missing a few days in the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas will recover academically. They’ll be fine.

Games should be played at the publicly funded university near the center of the state with the fancy field and thousands of acres of pasture suitable for parking but it would make too much sense for the PIAA and the publicly funded university would have to walk back several of the myths it promotes about its playing surface.
They did put a bid in for it. The PIAA rejected it because the CV bid was cheaper. Now that they expanded the playoffs I doubt they would bid again due to potentially hosting a first round game. What myths would they expose by hosting it? A PA grass field in December hosting 6 games in 3 days in not ideal. Even Acrisure Stadium doesn't host all 6 WPIAL championship games.

You have points. The problem is....the "Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in between" comment is really true. Harrisburg area is natural as it is most central. But there is not really a good venue, or a large even DII college nearby that might have decent facilities and accommodations.

State College is obviously geographically central (Centre County) but it is just impossible to get to and so far out there.

They need a good 12-15K venue with turf, parking, accommodations and access near Harrisburg.

They were at PSU when we started playing state championships-but the kids hated it because the size made it seem as though no one was there. An example is track and field. At Shippensburg the atmosphere is so good because it is crowded. CV is more like that than Hershey.

Seems to me that a school that gets that much public funding should be a bit more accommodating.

I tease about the field but they tend to make a really big deal about the playing surface. Like it's hallowed ground or something. Yeah, it will get beat up but it's not like they don't have a very large and well funded field turf program.

You would guess wrong, as usual. Ohio has been playing their playoffs at high school fields for years. Your problem is you have no idea how good some high school venues have become. And they are plenty big to accommodate the crowd sizes of our high school playoffs.

I don't really have a problem with CV other than it doesn't seem to have that "special" feel to it. It's actually a very nice venue with very easy access.

Way too big of a venue for this event.

yet you want kids to travel from Mt. Lebanon to State College on a Friday night?

That would be Shippensburg. The Alabama comment only fits politically

I definitely think that CV is nicer than Shippensburg (which is the only PSAC location that makes sense - no idea why they’d play it in Lock Haven).

I’d love to see Hershey put some money into the stadium. But it just doesn’t really feel like a priority for them. To be honest, I get the feeling they’d rather knock the stadium and the old arena down, and build an amphitheater for concerts in a smaller footprint. I don’t think they make any money on the old arena or the stadium outside of summer concerts anyway, and Hersheypark Stadium has a pretty bad reputation as a concert venue.

They don't even need 12k seats. Hershey would be the best venue if they would only renovate the locker rooms. Shippensburg is the closest DII school and it stadium is actually smaller than CV high school stadium (7,700 vs 8,045) and doesn't have a video board.

I've never been to the Rose Bowl, but I believe it's pretty old venue, has many seats not close the playing surface, etc. But there is something special about the place and the bowl game. Sure they could move the Rose Bowl game to So-Fi Stadium but some intangibles would be lost. Hershey always had a similar sort of special-ness to it that any high school venue, no matter how nice, no matter how fast growing of a county it is in, does not have.

Fastest growing county??? LOL. Its Pennsyltucky, you are 3 hours from civilization, who cares. And I played basketball my whole life. I know what hedging and ball screening. Though I don't remember ever posting about hedging.

Fannett-Metal High School is about the same distance from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The school board needs to make this happen.

This board would rejoice. Nothing makes them happier than HS championship games at obscure Pennsyltucky high schools. If Fannet-Metal can get the games to kick on a weekday afternoon, then they'd really have something. The WPIAL and PIAA are so screwed up its not even, its kind of tragic.

Cumberland and Lancaster are the fastest-growing counties in the state. The whole Harrisburg/Lancaster area is basically becoming an exurb of Philadelphia.

Man you are showing your ignorance. Cumberland county was the fastest growing county in the last census gaining 12.2% and added 28,133 people which is more than Allegheny county gained. Most of western PA counties like Westmoreland lost population. The entire Pittsburgh metropolitan area lost 2,733 people. The Harrisburg-Carlisle, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area is the 98th largest in the United States. The Combined Statistical Area is the 43rd largest in the United State. As far as three hours from nowhere...Baltimore is 1,5 hours away, Philadelphia and Washington DC is 2 hours away.

You play at Hershey. It's a destination unique to PA. You have the park, chocolate world and plenty of hotels/resorts. The venue is old but historic. It's ridiculous to play in a high school when that venue is available. You don't take low bid in this situation. You rob the kids of a unique experience.
