it is online there but of course comments are disabled
It wasn't there at 4 PM which means they want to minimize it and that's a fact.Just for the record, the top story in the paper today, just under the masthead and taking up all but one column of the paper, had the headline "Allegation could reshape Sandusky timeline". The story had the subheading "Court document says Paterno knew of abuse claim against assistant coach as early as 1976".
What actually seems strange is he number of times that someone bitches about how the PG doesn't cover a story that the PG not only covers but displays prominently in the paper.

Duh ! It was on the front page today and continued in a long article.Did I miss it? All the Philly papers, New York Times, USA Today and many foreign papers but not Post Gazzette.
It just seems strange.
People get the paper newsprint ? Is this 2001 ? The electronic copy vanished late morning and that's a fact.Did they print the newspaper in vanishing ink today?

LMAO - you are probably right. They will have an in depth story on Sunday on how much good Thon has done for advancing medical research and another expose on Robert Ferrante. And for good measure a story on James Franklin visiting his Pittsburgh relatives for Mothers day.

The PG ran the line article from AP and Penn Live
Actually the PG story was written by someone named Adam Smeltz, who's byline specifically says "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette".
But it was rehash. No op/ed like you seen with Dan Bernstein or David Jones or further stuff by our fav Sara Ganim. Maybe the columnists will "get around" to it in the next few days but I think seeing how reticent they were when the whole thing blew up in the first place and the subsequent trial, you and I know those are columns that won't be written. Care to argue this?
It was a news story. It did what news stories are supposed to do.
I agree that it is extremely unlikely that guys like Cook or Collier are going to write anything about the story. And if that's what you would have said I would have agreed with you 100%. Instead you had to say that the PG only ran the wire story, and that was wrong. It's just like when people here used to blame Steve Pederson for everything wrong at Pitt, even stuff that happened when he wasn't here. There are enough real, actual issues with the way the PG has covered this story to comment on that there is no need to make stuff up.
It was a rehash of the wire story Joe. Nothing new, no additional witnesses. Just a wrap. In fact I am surprised they didn't end the article with a story of James Franklin's aunty being from Pittsburgh.
Of course it was. As were 99% of the stories about it in newspapers across America today. I mean we do understand that this just broke late in the day yesterday, don't we? We do understand that there wouldn't have been a whole lot of time for someone to do some sort of deep investigative story on this that uncovered all sorts of new information in the relatively brief amount of time in between when the story broke and when the PG needed to have a story written to get it in the paper today, don't we? Is every news organization that merely had a similar story today guilty of the same offense as the PG?
I mean the Trib actually ran a story with the byline "Staff and Wire Reports" in today's paper, so they couldn't even be bothered to have one of their own people write the story. Why aren't you going after them for their coverage? Additionally, it doesn't appear that any Trib columnists have weighed in on the story yet. So why exactly is it that we are taking the PG to task for coverage that is actually slightly (very slightly to be sure) better than what the Trib has done?
As I said, there are enough problems with the way that the PG has covered this story (and throw the Trib in there as well) that there is no need to just make stuff up to have something to complain about.
Fair enough. By the way, my original post on this wasn't aimed at the print media in Pgh so much as the electronic media who are better suited to react to breaking news than newspapers are. And I defend Cook and the PG many times, but I understand Pitt fan's skepticism in regards to their bias or perceived bias.
Is the PG still in print?Okay, they keep digging and finding more and more. The Boston Globe broke open the Catholic Church scandal, so you see where our PG stands. I am just curious when ANYONE is going to be held accountable for any of this. The people, the school, the cult, the PG, ALL OF THEM!!
Apparently the people at the PG are just their to go to games for free and collect a paycheck, I guess doing their jobs isn't an option. Why would ANYONE have a subscription to a paper like that?
Have you ever thought the PG silently enables the scandal? I'm not in any way say they caused it but by not reporting the silently sit back and let it happen for 40 years.Okay, they keep digging and finding more and more. They keep losing readers and have little standing amongst their peers. They are being held accountable. They are dying a slow death. That is exactly my point. The Globe broke open a similar scandal, that is supposed to be one of their functions. What has the PG done? Does anyone there do the jobs they are paid to do? When will they be held accountable for not doing their jobs?
Its not only the PG that looks bad, their incompetence makes our area and the people look bad. Everyone outside of PA looks at ALL OF US in disgust.
And the fact of comparing the Catholic Church to PSU speaks volumes.Okay, they keep digging and finding more and more. From a pure sales model, if they had a slop drip of Paterno stories in the last 5 years, one could make the argument their circulation would have increased. They keep losing readers and have little standing amongst their peers. They are being held accountable. They are dying a slow death.
Yep. Instead of drawing 107,000 Nitwits, they only drew 92,000 - causing the closure of 95% of the businesses. Oh, the humanity! The real victims are the psu fans and the business owners in centre county. If you punish psu football, you punish the business owners. The healing continues.
