A few people on here have a technical understanding of football. I have a question for you.

How is it possible that Pitt's defense played Saturday against Cal looking like nothing of the defense that played against WVU, Cinci & NC?

I get the Sean Fitzsimmons presence, but how is it that Lovelace and Scott look like All ACC performers on the same day with career numbers?

Is it growth and mastery of assignments and roles?

Was it Cal's offensive design that played perfectly into Pitt's strengths?

Was Cal missing 2,3 or 4 offensive linemen. I already know about the running back being out, but I'm not sure he would have fared much better than the ones who played.

The defense looked like the defense of 2, 3 or 4 years ago when they were top 5 in sacks and pressure. Just trying to make some sense out of it.

Thanks
