Why would anyone expect anything other than 6 - 8 wins per year?

Put emotions aside. Explain logically why PITT should win between 9 and 12 games per year.

It simply does not make sense, especially for a northern school playing in an NFL town.

It is what it is.

Why did Rutgers, WVU, Minnesota have over 10 wins but we can't?
Rutgers did it once. In 2006. In the Big East. And now it may take them 6 years to win 10 games total
Wvu did it more, obviously, but again in the Big East. Think they’ll do it again anytime soon?
We’ll see if seasons like this for Minnesota are the new norm or a fluke

Obviously, Pitt can win 9 or 10 games. How often is another story. But the setup of the ACC Coastal - where Pitt is on the same level with every program save Duke - suggests Pitt will go 4-4 or 5-3 most years, and thus produce a 8 win season

I don’t expect 10 wins per year...I think 8 would be a pretty good average...but that would mean instead of 8, 8, 5, 7, 7 it needs to look like 6, 9, 7, 10, 8 or that effect.

There was no reason to not win 9 or 10 games this year with how bad the schedule was.

Absolutely ridiculous and troll like post.

Big part not the only thing. Commitment to winning moreso. Chryst was the picture of mediocrity here and look at him now

Commitment to winning falls on the head coach and AD. The other thing is discipline, which falls on the head coach. 99% of Pitt's problem is on the head coach's shoulders.

There are a whole bunch of things that factor into a team that wins 10 games. Coaching, recruiting, and scheduling are most important, but fan support, facilities, and other factors are important as well. Our coaching appears to be average to slightly above average, our recruiting is average, and our scheduling is average. Our facilities are average and our fan support is poor to average. We are a thoroughly average program, unfortunately.

True, there is tremendous parity in the ACC. Every team can beat every other team in our division. We really need to be strong on both sides of the ball and get lucky with calls. I expect 9 wins next year, and that’s the first time I’ve said that in a long time

Bingo!

Pitt should be able to field team that wins 10 wins games once every 8-10 years.. We shouldn't expect our program to average over 8 wins a year.

Frankly, I am underwhelmed by Narduzzi but I have zero faith that firing him will yield better results. Programs, some with much resources far deeper than Pitt, fire "underperforming" coaches every year and rarely does it lead to a better result.

Clearly, the market for hiring coaches is inefficient and so asymmetric that AD's continue to pursue a policy that rarely succeeds because they don't know any other way.

Here is the question posed by OP:

Explain logically why PITT should win between 9 and 12 games per year.”

It is a defeatist attitude. Pitt could and should win 8-9 games per year minimum, with the occasional 10 + wins.

Schools like Temple, Cincinnati, Memphis, UCF, Houston, TCU have been much more successful in recent years than Pitt. If they can be successful there is no reason we can’t.

Questions such as these should not be asked on a message board. The question should be address to HEATHER LYKE and CHANCELLOR GALLAGHER

Oh I don't think that's a realistic goal. But it'd be good to have 11 win season in the last 38 years or whatever. And a 10 win every five to ten years even would at least generate some interest. And even one legit conference title.

It’s not that Pitt should average more wins, they should be content with mostly 8 win seasons. You have a rough year and win 7, ok. You gotta take advantage of the opportunities when they’re there though and get that occasional 9, 10, 11 win season.

There’s just absolutely no way in Narduzzi’s fifth year this team should be 7-5 playing in this division. After going 3-1 in the OOC when basically everyone thought they would certainly be 2-2, it’s even more inexcusable. Going 4-4 against the ACC schedule they played this season is beyond embarrassing.

Narduzzi did an awful job coaching this season. He never coached as scared as he did this season. And if your only excuse is they just didn’t have the talent to be better than 7-5, that is on Narduzzi for not having any offensive talent in his 5th year here.

You can be on board with giving Narduzzi at least another year without going overboard in defending him. I’ve actually been one of his biggest supporters until this complete collapse to end the season. They had a great opportunity to build off of a division championship season and the program took many steps backwards. That is solely on Narduzzi no matter how you try and spin it.

uh, it falls on the board, the admin , the alumni, not just the head coach. You need a admin who is okay to keep a lawyer on 24 hour call to bail your players constantly out of trouble. You need an admin who is willing to hide pedophiles because it might jeopardize the success of the football program. You need an admin who is willing to hire a coach who is remotely connected in a sex abuse scandal even though your program is coming off one of the biggest sex abuse scandals ever. You need alumni who give more when times are tough in order to fire the coach and get someone better, rather than pout and say they won't contribute until things are better. Shall I continue?

So we need to be just like PissU. No thanks!!! As far as I'm concerned, that piece of s%$t program shouldn't even be playing the game for at least 10 years. And when they are finally reinstated, they should have severe scholarship limitations.

then don't complain about 7-5 with trips to Military bowls

There are plenty of other ways to do it the right way and win more than 6 or 7 games every year. That's nonsense to think otherwise. There are at least a few teams that do it the right way and win in a big way. Clemson was not a good program, but they hired a great coach, built the program up, recruited well, and developed players. Now they're perennial NC contenders. So don't give me that defeatist attitude that you have to play in the gutter and get muddy to be successful. You don't.

PissU is an extreme case and far outside the norm of ethical conduct in college sports. They are at the very lowest end. It can't be compared to most other programs that actually do some things right and win.

They are not that extreme when compared to Alabama, Florida, i.e teams in the playoff chase. Read about what was going on at Florida when Meyer was winning those national championships. Heck even ND wouldn't let a videographer come down from scaffolding on a windy day during practice.

A program located on the Moon can be a 10 win or greater team if you have a great coach, who hires other great coaches and they recruit great players.

The real reason we cant get past 6-8 wins is because we now have stability with an average, not bad, but average coach, with average to below average assistants.

I'm not sure PITT's average coach personality allows him to hire someone better than him some very stubborn and defensive people are like that.

PITT will not have great seasons until we have great leadership.
Beginning slow- ok, doing good in the middle - good, ending poorly -bad.

This tells me there's something wrong with PITT football leadership like no process or plan.

For every one of those filthy programs, there are programs that at least try and do it right and are successful, even mildly. We try and do things right, which is admirable and shouldn't change, but without the coaching staff and quality recruits, we're going nowhere.

But let's not kid ourselves. Pitt is not squeaky clean by any means. They just aren't very good at using the resources they have to be successful, at least in football.
