As we all know this is a trend that’s becoming more and more prevalent. Not sure if there are any Pitt players that might possibly choose to sit, I wouldn’t think this would apply to any EMU players.

Curious to see what happens with Alabama. They have 7 players projected as 1st round picks and are playing their most meaningless bowl game in years. No reason why a guy like Jerry Jeudy should play.

None of them are going to play. Why would they?

If you're going to be a 1st or 2nd rounder, I wouldn't play. This may apply to Twyman. I'd expect the other Pitt players to play but the bowl and the opponent is so bad, I wouldn't blame them if they didn't.

It’s great for people who’ve pined for the Bowl System to die out. If an avalanche of players start sitting these games out it will make the Bowls obsolete.

If I'm Hamlin I definitely play. I don't think the NFL is as high on him as Pitt fans. Did he even get an int this season? Good chance to pad some numbers and maybe make one last splash before the draft.

I love it when these guys sit out. I despise the bowl system. I absolutely loathe the fact the NCAA outsources its post-season to organizations who make bowl decisions based on revenue not merit.

If it continues we eventually will have that 16 team playoff and no other bowls.

What the hell are you going to do with your time without endless Pitt Bowl scenarios to work on?

I don't know. Twyman sounded pretty jacked after one game to be able to play with Camp and Weaver again. I think he stays and aims higher for the Donaldesque trophies among other team goals. He is clearly head and shoulders below Brown from Auburn.

The PG Pitt writer talked to an NFL scout about Pitt's underclassmen a week or two ago. He (the scout) watched film of three different Pitt games. His advice is that all of Pitt's underclassmen should stay in school for another year, because he doesn't think any of them would be drafted before the fourth round, and that several guys, like Twyman and Ford, could improve on that if they come back and put in the work.

He also threw in the caveat that if any of them had a great combine performance that they could jump up higher than that. But just based on the play he saw on tape he didn't think any of them would be drafted before the fourth round.

For the supposed greatness of our defense the lack of creating turnovers was pretty frustrating.

The entire bowl set-up is flawed. The only bowl games that matter are the three used by the "so-called" playoff system that determines the national champion.

Believe me, there is way too much money to be made off this crap for bowls to end, even with 16 teams in the CFP.

What I'd like to see happen is for the NCAA to stop outsourcing bowl games and create their own bowl games and award the bowls based on merit.

You create a rule that ends private (all) bowl games. Maybe grandfather in the NY6. Then you rent 30 NFL/college/other stadiums, name the bowl games and have an NCAA committee award them based on merit

Need to cut out half the bowl games but give every team the extra practices, bowl eligible or not:

I think the Gasparilla bowl still does a better rating than any college basketball game during that same time period. The bowls will continue for that reason.

Maybe some of the posters on here will opt out for the bowl game.

Correct. People will watch them and they will always exist in some form or fashion.

ESPN needs programming. Half of these crap bowl games are literally owned by ESPN for that very reason. They also own half of those November basketball tournaments played in front of 29 people in some far-off destination for the very same reason.

I disagree. They sit out, under class men and true freshmen play, actuelly makes the games more exciting.

I like brightwell, Kylan Johnson, Jackson, Ffrench but I don’t want to see them play against emu. Give me the younger guys.

2019 season is in the books, show me what is in store for 2020.

For teams like Pitt sure, but for the teams with the All American guys it’s a killer if they no show. The Stanford team Pitt played last year was a shadow of itself. We saw how WVU looked without Grier.

There should be a 16 team playoff bowl system and that's it.

If a kid is a realistic NFL prospect, they should absolutely sit out this game. I would have no issues with that.

I don’t blame any kid on any team who has NFL ability to sit out a post season game.
It’s a business decision more power to them.

Out of my Pitt homer-ism, I hope no Pitt players go pro haha. Twyman, Ford and Jones would have the best cases. They wouldn't be Day 1 draftees and Day 2 is maybe possible - Round 3?? They might as well get their draft grades, but if they aren't Round 2 at least, definitely come back.

Turnovers are partially the defense and part luck. Had a discussion about this on the Steelers board. The Chicago bears had a insane number of takeaways last season, this year with basically the same guys they dont. They went from a division champ to having a outside shot at a wild card. The Steelers are getting a ton of takeaways this year but there is a very good chance they won't get near as many next year even if everyone is back. Like I said it's part luck. The good thing for Pitt is they didn't get many this year and still had a very good d. Chances are they get more next season.

There might be one little detail that you're not considering.

Who is going to pay for your plan?

I think all the starters for LSU, tOSU, Clemson and OU should sit out, they have the most to lose, they are projected in the top rounds, playing in those games could cost them millions, so why bother? That stupid trophy will be meaningless if it costs you a few million $$$

Those are real playoff type games, we are talking about the other bowl games.

should an nfl bound Sr or under class men player sit out those playoff games? That’s a debate for the ages. Honestly, if my team was in that playoff and a player sat out, I’d be pissed.

While it is easy and fashionable to bash the PG, i thought that article was really interesting. BTW i dont think he was an NFL scout, i think he worked for Scout, Inc.

I do agree with the guy's overall premise. Jones, Twyman and Ford all have NFL futures. All three of them would probably get drafted but another good year for each of them would really benefit each player.

I agree with you, but there is no difference if you think about it, the chance of injury and loss of future NFL income is more of a risk in a 2 game playoff with many of the highest projected players. Why risk it? Just like SMF says, Clemsons QB is a sure #1 pick now, so why play your junior year and risk becoming like Tua? Just quit the team and start working out for the 2021 NFL Combine TODAY. I don't agree with any of it, but that's where we're headed

Or just get an injury insurance policy?
