Will pitt turn down another NIT invite this year too?

Man, I hope so. I really hate watching this team. But I’m a glutton for punishment and will watch if they keep playing.

The NIT is dead. It’s a mid major tournament. Fox is doing that weird tournament with Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East schools starting this year, and schools from those conferences are contractually obligated to play in that tournament instead of the NIT.

The NIT will be mid-majors, maybe a handful of ACC and SEC schools, and the worst of the worst from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East. It’s just not a tournament that is even worth playing in anymore.

Right. Great idea by Fox though. People will absolutely watch college basketball on non-NCAAT days. ESPN runs a million different tournaments and bowl games, you'd think they'd form their own tournament for their TV partners, ACC, SEC, American, WCC, etc and require them to play in it like Fox is doing. Have it at Disney so you don't even have to rent a gym.

Pitt will definitely turn down the NIT invite.

We have an NCAAT palate on a CBI budget.

Again, this isn't true. I would guess that our player payroll is smack dab in the middle of the P5. It's not blue blood payroll but there will be plenty of teams spending about what we are spending or less who will make the NCAA Tournament. 1 of those teams is 70 miles north as their payroll is much lower than even last year's WVU team.

Haha, I didn't mean it in a literal sense of what we're paying our players. I meant it's kind of funny to turn down the NIT when we will have only done better than that one time in nine years and we will have only even been good enough to make even the NIT three times in nine years.

I get that it's a little different now because of what the NIT has become, but it feels like a classic case of a completely oblivious fat, unemployed, unshaven dude sitting around in his studio apartment telling his friend that he doesn't want to be fixed up with somebody because her teeth are too crooked.

Why would ESPN create their own tourney when they basically pay nothing for the NIT? If the FOX tourney gets some eyeballs I'm sure Disney will force the AAC, ACC, SEC and WCC to make their teams play in the NIT.

Because they don't own the NIT so they have to buy it's TV rights and they don't get any arena gate. Maybe the solution is to buy the NIT. But it would be cheaper to just create a Disney Tournament.

Disney would make more money overall with a youth basketball, volleyball, cheerleading and so on tourney at Wide World of Sports at Disney World, the gate at NIT games is barely anything since the tickets are dirt cheap or free. The NCAA owns the NIT, whatever tv rights fee is rolled in with whatever ESPN/Disney is paying for the NCAA Championships they have the rights to, so hockey, baseball, softball, volleyball, gymnastics, and wrestling.

Performing as we currently are, who can confidently say we will even get an invite??? We've lost 6 of 8 and are showing signs of a "CCC", otherwise known as a Complete Capel Collapse.

I wish they would go, because I'd rather watch Pitt play in the NIT than the actual NCAAT if they aren't in it, I don't gamble and I don't even fill out brackets anymore, so it's hard for me to care about games where I have little or no serious rooting interest
