In some ways, the S&C staff is more important than ever, now that we have the transfer portal. A guy might be willing to sit on the bench all year if he's actually seeing progress in the weight room and trusts the staff that there is a long-term plan. If a guy is not playing AND not improving, why would he ever stay?
Another aspect of S&C is fatigue management. Given that Capel's teams collapsed each February, that was probably not a great sign for the last guy. (I actually thought Gary C. seemed like a pretty decent S&C coach all things considered.)
