I've been asking around, and it sounds like the Baltimore Sun report on Juwann Winfree - which said his two suspensions are Maryland weren't related to failed drug tests - is accurate. From what I've heard, there were some issues with grades or academics.
While this is a different sort of issue, I think Pitt can - and should - take the same approach that I mentioned yesterday:
Tell Winfree that he has a year-long probationary period while he sits out due to transfer rules. If he messes up once, he's gone. If he keeps it together, he can compete for a starting job in 2016. If you're Pitt, you can either add a really talented player or flex some disciplinary muscle and dismiss him before he even steps on the field.
My guess - and this is just a guess - is that some form of that conversation will take place when Winfree visits on July 20. If Winfree's response is satisfactory, I imagine Pat Narduzzi will offer him a spot at Pitt and he will probably take it.
