as expected. Richer still in a couple weeks if Miles Bridges follows. That is looking like a very realistic possibility.

I actually respect MSU's program a lot, and I like Izzo, so it could be worse. I strongly dislike when we lose recruits to slimeballs who also can't coach.

Pretty much.

Winston seems like a smart kid, so he couldn't make a bad choice from his final 4.

No, it was expected. But PSU just also picked up a commitment from Lamar Stevens. Right now they have a top 10 class. I know, I know, that doesn't mean anything, yada, yada, yada, but.......PSU never got kids like this before and Pitt seems to be just spinning its wheels.

I don't care much about PSU at all.

Yeah... but... If Pitt doesn't start recruiting better (and stop having the average recruiting class being in the 2 star range) and coach Chambers can "coach" decently... They could poetenially be better than Pitt. I know... I know the differences in programs and what has been of Pitt before and all that stuff, but maybe PSU's turning it around while Pitt is (slowly) trending down...

Go Pitt...

I'm not worried about them at all.
People are acting like it's a calipari type of class, when it's a Dixon type of class.

Looks like we shouldn't be too worried. Though based on his post-game pressers he seems to think he's never lost a game.

If they (PSU) had Dixon coaching the talent they just got, they would almost be an instant sweet sixteen (in at least once of the nxt 2 years but...., with the coach they have now.... Idk... We'll see what he does....with what he got...

I'm not worried about them either, but I'm worried about us. We all have to be concerned about the way JD's recruiting has been trending. And to me it's concerning that we wasted the energy and resources we just spent on recruiting a player that we never had a realistic chance to land. I guess we had to ride it all the way to the end given Smoke's relationship with Winston and Winston keeping us on his list, but it was a classic case of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. For example, Michigan was a finalist too, and some thought they had the only outside chance of getting Winston away from MSU. But Beilen knew it was a long shot, so he kept hosting PG prospects throughout and got the commitment he needed out of X Simpson. Smart play. What was our backup plan?

Just forfeiting the season.
And Dixon resigns.

Kithcart and White?

You act like the whole coaching staff has just been sitting around in their office doing nothing at all the past couple weeks while waiting to hear what Winston was going to do. Which is, of course, absurd.

bad you were right i give credit where it is due. But it wasn't really a lost or even the rich getting richer because as you said it was a forgone conclusion he was going there. But i don't understand all the crying by pitt fans and posters because we never did get the major recruits and still won. As a matter of fact we went to the tournament when some of the so called rich were at home. Pit t basketball is the equivalent of Boise state football. doesn't get the major recruits but still is successful. And despite what many posters think we are successful.

Winston was worth the effort, given his ties to Smoke. It's obvious a backup plan was in place, as Kithcart committed on his visit.

To be fair, most posters here think that is what Barton does year round.
And unfortunately for Barton, he has done little to assure fans and alumni this is not the case. I have been critical of Barton - but for many people reality is based upon perception, and the perception is that he is not doing anything that contributes positively to the program moving forward. Maybe as fans we are not privy to see and understand what he is doing to help Pitt, but it just doesn't seem like he is doing much (e.g. When was the last time JD mentioned a suggestion Barton made in game to help the team, or who was the last recruit that publicly commented about Barton influencing his decision to come to Pitt - insert Uchebo or Haughton joke here).

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Bill Barton work for Jamie Dixon ? So if he doesn't work for any of us why does he have to justify his existence to anyone other than JD. Bill Barton isn't the reason for Pitts problems in recuriting it starts at the top and the top is the chancellor and goes down from there. The only way to satisfy the masses is to start getting the elite recuirts and Pitt doesn't want to and won't play that game.

Well, as of now, at least 3 of next year's team are Barton recruits- Artis, Nix and Kithcart.

Haughton was a Slice guy. Not sure who recruited Uchebo but his problem wasn't talent. If he had been healthy, he was plenty good enough. His knee just wouldn't take the pounding.

Slice got Haughton. When was the last time ANY head coach has publicly stated an idea an assistant made in game? It may happen, but I cannot think of any. Coach K: Well I was totally lost without any ideas. thank God assistant Smith had this idea or we would have been a ship without a rudder".

What does Brian Regan do on a daily basis? What does the video coordinator do on a daily basis? What brilliant ideas for basketball has the new AD implemented? What do all the assistant ADs do on a daily basis?

None of us have any idea what these people do. Barton is no exception.

As I have said for years at this point: Dixon is sticking with Barton rather than firing him. The only two possibilities are 1) He knows something we don't. 2) Dixon is making a mistake, which could possibly be his own undoing. Either way, only time will tell. There's no point in continuing this witch hunt with Barton. It isn't like Dixon is going to read your post and think, "Wow, I guess I really should've fired him 2 years ago! Brilliant!"

What a totally rational post....it will be promptly ignored by the misery crew.

Who found and recruited Milligan? Barton seems to be the guy on the staff most familiar with academics and eligibility. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the guy who discovered that there was an issue with Florida Gulf Coast but that Milligan could be accepted by Pitt. I think that Barton may do a lot of the preliminary research on these type of things.

Its all kind of weird. Like it seems Pitt is in late on all these guys or something. Maybe the move to ACC affected Jamie more than thought. Almost like he totally started over.
