Went to see the Bryant game. Some quick thoughts:
—Johnson and Day were on fire from 3.
—We don’t have a center. Liatu, Exanor, and Hutcherson all defended at center. The Bryant center was maybe 6-2 but she was able to back them in for close-in shots.
—Ezeja only played the last 4+ minutes and that stopped the backing down. They were about the same size - our other defenders are on the thin side, except Liatu, but she’s only 6- foot.
—Hayford still a bit out of control; Day still tries to be a bit too fancy at times. You know turnovers are coming from these two.
—Day looked good shooting 3s and pull-ups.
—Ace Strickland plays with a lot of energy. Her first two threes were hurried and not close. Looks like she can play when she settles down a bit.
—Malcolm was interesting. Missed her first 3, then did a nice fake and drive to score the next time. She banked in a 3 from the side. Her highlight was a one-on-one drive and finish with her left hand. (Don’t know if she’s a lefty or not…)
She did struggle on defense - gave up some drives - this looks like a problem…
—Washenitz played with energy but she’s not very big. She drove into trouble a couple times…
—Would like to see Liatu shoot more.
—This team will really miss Rita - we just have no defense when we play a decent center except trying to deny her the ball…
