Women Won

Started two tranfers- Hutcherson from Ohio State at center and Lewis from Maryland at PG. Both appear to have played pretty well - Lewis was 3 for 4 from 3.

Cynthia Ezeja, the other possible center, didn’t play; local recruit true-freshman Malcolm didn’t play. Injuries?

White did play 10 players, but seemed to stick to 7 or so a bit more than he normally does. Hoping he’s more demanding on earning playing time this season…

Go Pitt.

I'll wait until I see more
of their games, but IMO
there's very little talent
and hardly any height on
this team.

I did watch a little of it
last night while viewing
the guys and wasn't impressed.
Harris, after a great freshman
year, has not improved as
much as I feel she should
have. The two transfers
will help. Hutcherson is
only 6'2"" and that's a
liability in the ACC where
legit Bigs are on just about
every other team not
named Pitt.

We opened up a big lead
in the 1st qtr, but Coppin
St. a pretty poor team,
cut it to 7pts late. The ACC
has several ranked teams,
and we're gonna be mis
matched when we play
them. Sorry for the not
so positive view, but it
doesn't look promising
to me.

I think Malcolm was a reach

Coaching matters, and
I'm hoping Coach White
can somehow turn things
around with this program.
So far....no such thing.

I've been critical of his
approach on here in
the past. The biggest
problem is recruiting.
IMO he has/had some
good athletes, but they
simply are not ACC level
Bball players.This league
is damn tough in WBB.

A comparison to other
Pitt womens' sports.
in a very tough ACC,
specifically Soccer
and Volleyball. They both
recruit much, much
better. Volleyball, was a
decent sport here, even
before coach Fischer's
arrival. However, he is
able to land a top Big 10
transfer in 6'5" Busserio.
She is elite, All America
elite. Lund, and others
were elite players. They
are at the top of the ACC
which has other ranked
teams. They make the NCAA's
and have been to Final Four.

Womens" soccer, the coach
was a national figure before
he came to Pitt. He's taken
a disastrous program and
is setting records in a few
short years....NCAA bound
this year. Elite recruits?
Not yet, but very good. I
believe it can be done at
Pitt in WBB. The question
is....Is White the coach to
do it?

What are these women’s sports you speak of? According to SMF these collegiate sports are irrelevant!

I think Malcolm was a reach
According to the coaches, they avoid taking a local player who is a reach. Bad look to have a local kid sitting the bench. They think Malcolm will contribute. And they certainly need better shooters.

Whether she works or or not - I'm not sure how a top 100 national recruit could be a reach for a program like Pitt. I coached against her in a couple of early AAU tournaments 2 years ago. She can flat out shoot from deep. She will comfortably pull from 24 ft. Not super athletic; more of an "old man's" game.

Just basing my opinion on seeing her play a few times. I hope I’m wrong.

I think getting a W on the road against a small school was his only priority.

They are worried that it gets like it is with certain football programs locally. Pitt owes it to them to take their kids, and then when they get here Pitt owes it to them to play their kids.

They'd rather not deal with the BS unless they think the player has the potential to be a starter.

Shooting continues to be an issue. 35% overall and only 23% from 3.

All 14 players on the roster played…

Go Pitt.
You're right, shooting is
an issue. However IMO,
they looked much better
than the first game. I
like the new transfer pg,
Lewis. She runs the
offense and settles the
flow. It allows Harris to
play the off guard where
she can score. I also like
King inside, and some of
the others who have
experience.

What they don't have is
height. They can compete
and beat these pre league
teams. The ACC is going to
be brutal for them (again).
G. Mason's big gave us
problems, and she was
not good. Our 6'2" transfer
actually stays on the
perimeter and is no help
inside. Undersized Brown,
King are our only inside
threats, and will be at a
huge disadvantage vs
ACC teams. For now, I'd
suggest we enjoy these
pre league wins.

I was originally planning on going today (and then heading over for the second half of the soccer game) but plans changed and I couldn't swing it. With the way that the schedule sets up I may not see them now until they play Illinois at the end of the month.

Well, when you do get
there it will help to hear
from someone who sees
them live. I live in eastern
pa, so my viewpoint and
opinions are from tv only.
Being there in person,
gives more of a"feel" for
what's happening.
