Holy eff!!!!

I have never heard a player, parent, or anyone as close to the program be so critical. And really its all true. Except for the zone part. They didn't play much zone and arent a zone team so obviously teams will find success against it from time to time.

3 things that reinforces what I know

1. Players generally dont like Capel. I don't know what it is because he seems like a good guy but they just dont seem to like him. It shows in recruiting and transfers and obviously what Mr. Horton said

2. I was right about what happened with the cops. Situation done. Horton said something he shouldn't have and bam, the cops gotta be tough instead of laughing and walking away. I hope they sue.

3. God bless Vuk for doing these tabloid-esque articles.

LOL - maybe that's the defensive problem. The whole team thought they were playing zone and Capel thought they were playing man.

I don't get the Vuk hate. He has a business. Sometimes he actually does break news. Sometimes he reports from bad sources, but there's a market for what he does. I can sift through some of the annoying stuff to get the noteworthy stuff and this is an example of that. Its below the belt stuff that the mainstream wouldn't print but does that mean a blogger shouldn't print dad quotes? Perhaps Capel should coach better or treat players better.
It’s not hate
He’s a gossip who has one move - clickbait

I’ve not seen any news being broken because they don’t have sources - they reader’s digest Twitter

Ithel's father is out of his lane and where was he when his boy was in trouble?

BTW ... Coach Capel is right to think he needs to recruit better players but he needs to keep that locked up in a vault!

Yeah, I thought that was kinda funny when his father took offense to Capel saying he needs to recruit better players. LOL! Maybe it hit closer to home than he thought it would. And Capel does need to keep that to himself, even if it's true. That's on him 100%, not the players he recruits.

I didn't have a problem with him saying he needs to recruit better. Its true and he is saying he's accountable for doing that.

Honestly no matter how the team does next year I would like coach Capel to go. I think we need a new face of the program. Heather tried and it was a good hire on paper at the time but he just needs to go. I will say that all of this is coming from an angry parent most likely responding to a below the belt article written by the same guy. He probably was hoping for something like this.

Why was it a good hire on paper? He was fired from his last job and couldn't beat anyone without Blake Griffin

Remember when I said Capel's comment about recruiting better players was a big deal and a few people tried to convince me otherwise.

Well... 😂

Sorry, but you keep comments like that behind closed doors.
You’re probably correct. He could be more general, say we have to get better (because that’s obvious anyway) which could softly convey the same thing with some wiggle room.

But don’t forget he has to appease a few message board posters with the cold hard truth at some point.

Correct. It is the same as most thought Lyke did the right thing by backing Capel in the recent press conference. What good did it do for Capel to throw the current players under the bus? It was a dumb comment even though everyone knew it was true.

It wasn't a big deal. He was transferring anyway. Everybody transfers.

You just don't say shit like that about guys you recruited. You take the high road. Always. It doesn't matter if you think it's not a big deal; it's all about how the players and potential recruits perceive it.

Anyone that understands basketball realizes what a mess Capel has created. Now we just have a parent coming out and publicly stating what we know.

From what I've heard, it seems like our AD has also botched this whole Capel hiring process more than most of us even realized. He coached the first year without a contract or something. Just insane.

Not sure if he was prompted with a question, but he was explaining why his son - perceptionwise - turned his back on a coach who supposedly had his back during his troubled year. He just did what Hugley didn’t do. Who cares really.

What purpose does it serve to the current team?
Do you think anyone on this current team does not know that this team does not have the talent to be successful in the ACC? Posters on here have been saying this for years, and Capel is acknowledging the problem. Whether he can correct it is very much in doubt, given his history here.

You would think the players believe that their coach believes in them. Coach Capel could use a crash course on Building mutual trust with his players

Yeah, Ithiel’s dad has been a wealth of information in his entire time his son played here.

The article is recency bias. So many of us are sick of the situation and Capel that nobody is even willing to challenge that what the Dad said might be exaggerated Again, my opinion is that you are a pretty poor parent if you have access to a video that clears your son of wrong doing and you make no attempt to get it out there in the public. There is probably about a 10% accuracy within this article. My God are people pliable and gullible.

The only coach that does not need to recruit better players is the one who wins the Tourney. Literally all other programs could say the same thing.

He gave a walk on a scholarship this year, because he was better than some of the scholarship players. That should be enough evidence to anyone that he needed better players. Those guys who were losing games by 20 at the end of the year know they are not good enough.

True but HE recruited them and should build teams and not adversaries.

HE HAD TOO! LOL! That guy was playing more minutes every game than some of his scholarship guys played the whole season combined :)

Capel needs a lot more than a crash course in mutual trust. He definitely needs that, but he also needs an attitude adjustment and a course on how to be totally accountable for his results and quit making excuses. If he was really focused on his job, his entire job, we wouldn't be where we are now.

And whose fault is it that he doesn't have even serviceable players now? That's not the players' fault.

He said that he was responsible for recruiting better players, he wasn't blaming them. My point is that it is obvious to anyone that Pitt needs better players, and there was nothing wrong in his acknowledgement of that.

I agree...there's nothing wrong with his acknowledgement of that. There is something seriously wrong and chronically wrong with his actions that contribute to the culture he has created. I don't care about his words. He has a lot of them and they mean nothing. His actions and results are unacceptable and don't align with his words.
