We get 0 transfers and 0 new HS recruits for the coming season. Who’s left? 7-8 players? I’m sure there are a few walk-ons that HCJC would bring in to make sure we have enough players for practice ...

Again, this is the worst case scenario. I doubt this happens and yet it could. Wake me up in September/October when our roster is set.

enjoy the off season ...

I have sat back and watch everything unfold and have my own theory. I am hoping that Reid chooses Pitt and Champ comes back. I also was hoping that at the very least we would have gotten either Soriano, Bickerstaff or Harrar to fill out the front court. As of now 2 of the 3 are going elsewhere. I want Coach Capel to turn it around, but slowly doubts are creeping into my mind. I know that he is recruiting 2022 kids very hard, but next year worries me. If Reid doesn't commit and Champ decides to leave, this team will be as bad as the train wreck 4 years ago. Only Capel and his staff know what the plan is, but if this team hits rock bottom again next year, I have my doubts that any highly recruited kids would want to come in and play for this team in the future.

Unlike many on this board who constantly bring out the doom and gloom no matter what happens, I want to be positive and am rooting for this coach.

Did santos decommit?
I get some of you are clinging to this false narrative -
But we do have a commit

Everyone just needs to relax. Season is 6 months away and things change hourly. Akinjo from AZ just entered the portal yesterday. Good to great players will still be entering the portal for a couple more weeks. Teams that have players opting out of the draft will see those who were supposed to replace them possibly leave. A college coach may take a NBA job. So much can happen. You can worry in July or August. But now is not the time.

I feel like things can change quickly. Last year at this time we were reading dissertations every day from Vader about how awesome everything was.

A lot of BS there ultimately - but also shows that the perception can flip back to the good side quickly

I'm worried we could have a weak team next year. The idea we won't fill out the roster with any/D1 players is silly though. We'll sign guys, the question is will they include Efton Reid or someone who is better suited for Bowling Green. The "Worst case scenario" is something boring, sorry drama queens.

Yea, I mean the team is going to be Stallings-bad but we will absolutely have at least 12 scholarship players. The worst-case scenario is we wind up signing lower-level mid-major transfers like say a guy who averaged 7 at Eastern Kentucky or something like that. We aren't that far away from that though.

Maybe the way I wrote the post was misleading. Please don’t count me among the “drama queens”. I was merely trying to point out that the absolute worst situation Pitt Men’s Basketball could be in, is if they don’t get any additional 2021 HS recruits nor any transfer players.

I’d love to see Pitt get the top-rated (4 star+/ top 100 in the nation) players, but I’m not going to dwell on who they do or don’t. Next year’s season is 6-7 months away. I find it’s easier to be a fan of something actual than something hypothetical

No, worst case would be Femi, Sibande, and Jeffress transferring out as well. Only Horton officially said he was staying, not sure if it is just assumed the others will stay, but if no help comes then why should they stay. So figure a starting 5 of Horton, Collier, Max, Santos, and a walk on.

good to great players are available. They just aren't coming here.

Players want to play. At some point, the guys that Pitt have now will realize that they’ll be getting the bulk (30-35+) of the minutes here, but would likely get less playing time elsewhere.

But regardless, Pitt will have at least 5 guys in sneakers playing hoops this coming fall ... let’s call that my “Sean Miller Fan” prediction! 🤡

Yeah I was sarcastic with my starting five. At the least maybe a 2022 reclass or two. I also don’t see PITT staying near the bottom. A move will be made if needed next year. For all the AcC move has screwed Pitt, it stabilized some but had some random success. Pitt has basically won the coastal or equivalent in football, volleyball, soccer, baseball, wrestling, etc. Yes they care about Olympic sports but they care more about basketball revenue.

Wow, when you put it that way, its hard to believe men's basketball has had maybe the least success since the move....and were probably positioned the best. There's no reason to be this bad. None. And the fix is sooooo easy. Hire Pitino and NCAA Tournaments start again by Year 2.

Rick Pitino would not come here even if we wanted him. Pitino, if he comes back to a P5 school, will go to a place that will allow him to play his game. Pitt clearly is not that place! If Pitt were the right place, Capel would not be striking out on all the big recruits like he is some unknown has been.

I agree with your main point but there is no such thing as a "P5" basketball school. You can win a national title at Memphis, Gonzaga, Villanova, Uconn, Houston, and so on. The reason it's P5 in football is if you go 12-0 at UCF, you're not getting in the playoffs. In basketball, playoffs are open to all, and I could totally see Pitino end up at Cincinnati or something.
