1 - West Marshall
2 - Blakes. Freshman
3 - Warren. Hampton
4 - Gantt. Providence
5 - Carlton. UConn

6 - First good and available big

Would this be OK to do now or disappointing?

Ok

I think if Hugley and Champagnie are back you’d take those five and run. Don’t think you need a sixth (14th) scholarship in that case, and I think you’d run into issues convincing anything more than a depth guy or a reclamation project to come on board with that sort of roster already set.

I like West and Blakes, not so much Warren, Gantt or Carlton.

You are in my territory. I am a little surprised that those who have responded would willingly accept this set.

Warren would not come here with Justin returning.

Be sure this is not what we end up with.

Other than West we are no lock for any good transfers at the moment

the starting 5 is one thing. The bench depth is a totally different animal.
i dont doubt we will field a semi decent starting 5. they will be toast half way through the acc schedule as they wear out.

Thanks for the reply. Unless there are a t least a couple of big surprises, I think you are right.

i think people dont realize that yes you can attract some kids through the portal to start but the portal isnt going to give us this bevy of incredible bench players. trying to fill 6 schollies for 2 starters and 4 bench players isnt realisitc. those bench players really need to be young developmental guys not tranfsrrs trying to start now.

people are really underestimating what we will get on the bench from the portal.

I am hoping Horton, Jeffress, Collier and Max are bench players.

Collier and Admadsum need develop into reasonable bench depth- line 5-8 mins/ game players .

I agree it’s unreasonable to think we’ll get 5 transfers of any quality . 2 would be nice - they really need 3 - and then at least one HS player .

A realistic roster next season:
Femi
West
Sibande
Champagnie
Transfer C / PF

Horton
Jeffress
Collier
Max
HS player
HS player

Leaves two spots

Your last sentence is totally accurate - we’re not getting all of those guys. But if you’d tell me that we could, I’d think that’s a pretty solid haul.

It wouldn’t be a flawless roster, and it depends on a few other factors - what happens with Champ and Hugley, primarily - but assuming we’d get those two guys back, I think you’d have a roster that looks like this:

Starters: Femi, West, Sibande, Champagnie, Carlton

Bench: Horton, Blakes, Jeffress, Warren, Collier, Hugley, Amadasun

I think that looks pretty good both for starters and a bench. It’d get pretty lean at wing and down low if Champagnie/Hugley don’t come back, but if both of them do, you’d have a whole lot of options at wing (either with Champ playing the 4 like he did last year and Sibande/Jeffress/Warren at the 3, or moving Champ to the 3 and having a longer 4 like Gantt or Collier), and Carlton with Hugley seems like a pretty decent timeshare at the 5.

i guess my point is we should expect 2 decent transfers and steep drop off in talent afte that.

there pieces to build around. capel has to move heaven and earth to put a tournament team together at this point

Well, like I said, Warren would not come if Justin returns.

If Justin stays, a Transfer recruit would need the ability to play the four as much as the three.

For purposes of discussion you would need to replace him with someone else.

Efton Reid.... Like I said, its been Pitt and Ohio State at the top for a while unless something very recently changed.

“I think he’s the most skilled big man in the country,” his former high school coach, Curt Kassab, told the Herald-Leader after last season. “There are some really athletic post players, but they don’t have his skill. I think that’s why he’s such a priority for so many schools.”

Reid left the Steward School (Va.) in the offseason to transfer to IMG Academy in Florida, where he’s still getting a ton of interest from top colleges. Heading into the early signing period, Ohio State and Pittsburgh were seen as the two most likely landing spots for Reid,

As for Reid, the 6-11 center is expected to play college basketball, with Ohio State and Pittsburgh the favorites for the IMG Academy senior. While the Buckeyes and Panthers have a leg-up, Roberts reports, “Kentucky remains a school to watch in Reid’s recruitment.”

For the way Pitt uses centers, Myles Johnson from Rutgers would be the best fit.

We. Are. Not. Getting. Efton. Reid. Stop It!!

Priority transfers are guard (West) and a big (Harrar)

Then with Odukale, Horton, Jeffress, Collier and Amadasun back you would be at 7 scholarships. I believe Nike doesn't count as a super senior, so you still have 4-6 left pending Champagnie and Hugley.

You will probably want a developmental guard (Blakes) and another wing to replace Toney as insurance on Jeffress development. Earl Timberlake would be the dream.

Still probably need another big (Tari Eason or AJ Wilson). Then we will see what Capel can land. Locke is a great shooter from UF on the market. Maryland native.

Wahab’s the priority over Harrar. Better with more years of eligibility - though that also means the competition is tougher.

Your opinion or inside info?

Harrar is really good. Especially the advanced stats. Yes, he is only a one year player, but you have to assume we will finally recruit a big in the 2022 class. 😂
Hopefully he wants to stay in state.

How many more years would Wahab really stay? You would have to hope he has a great year and turns pro. I know true centers are less important in the NBA, but I'd still think he is trying to get to the NBA ASAP.

Wonder if he’s exploring options overseas. Can you go to the G-league without declaring for the draft?

Harrar is a reasonable, realistic get. Hoping they land him, though Shrewsbury apparently is making some in roads with the PsU guys in the portal.

Harrar LOVES Penn State, but felt burned by the AD for the way Chambers was canned. That’s the story with a lot of the PSU guys in the portal - it was personal, but just like with Pitt after Stallings was fired, a solid handful of the guys who asked to transfer ended up coming back.

So with the Reid, West, and Santos commits pending, we are at

Femi
Sibande
West
Reid
? (Ideally Champ)

Depth Bench
Horton
Jeffress

Hopefully more depth bench
Santos
Collier
Max
