Man… I thought we were due one of these close ones
well done Panthers well done

Just saw the replay of the Burton shot after missing the 2nd half. Big shot! Happy for these kids. Credit to JC for the kids playing hard, but unfortunately it’s still going to be a long season.
I would say--just a barely winning season would do it; but, only if there are quality incoming players on the way who would appear to make the following season look like a post-season team on paper.First of all, very proud and happy!! I agree that it gets exhausting seeing a motorcycle crash everyday. And I do believe these kids have worked and played so hard all year. It's a tribute to them and the coach they haven't given up.
Second, exciting to see a few other players besides Hughley step it up. To win when he was effectively taken out of the game by the other team is impressive and bodes well for the future
Third, this team has to find a way to shoot better and not turnover the ball so much. I'm not sure what Santos did to be in the doghouse but he's the one guy who can hit an open shot so let him play.
Fourth, I've said it before this team will play up and down to its competition every game. So they will win some we don't expect and lose some we shouldn't. But I do think we will win enough for Lyke to give Capel one more year. They will use the pandemic and new dynamic of transfer for portal as the excuse. But if he does get another year I think he has to either make the tournament or have a winning season and just miss it.
Yes. A long season. It will take a near miracle to finish with 10 wins since that will require a Jacksonville win plus 5 ACC wins--or 6 ACC wins.

I agree that getting 9-10 wins is about this season's ceiling-- perhaps 12 at the very outside if Horton somehow gets back (his court hearing is now 12/30) and he adds some consistent 3-point shooting to the team.It doesn't appear that we have a shot at even a close to winning season this year. If we can win 9 or 10 games total, that's about all that can be expected.
And with no recruits coming in and none on the horizon, what can be expected from that hope? And even if Capel can get a recruit or 2, they'd have to be top 50 kids. And he isn't going to do that.

That being said, my post was really in reply to Gep Dawg's premise that Lyke gives Capel another year after this one even with only a 9-10 win season.
So, I was actually speculating about what would be required for Capel to achieve next season (if Lyke keeps him) to keep his job beyond next season. Gep Dawg's opinion was it would require either making the post season next season or coming close. I replied that even a bare winning season next season would be enough if there were quality recruits on the way for the season after next season (i.e., for the 2023-2024 season).
Of course this is all pure wild speculation and would depend on several not all extremely likely things happening --
(1) Lyke giving Capel another year after this one.
(2) Hugley, Femi, Burton and Santos not transferring out.
(3) Capel finding enough quality transfers and recruits next spring/summer to put a winning team on the court for 2022-2023.
(4) Capel signing a high quality recruit class in 2022-2023 that adds hope/promise for a 2023-2024 season that could have a post season.
Agree.I misunderstood the premise. Sorry. Not this year, but next year as the year we get close to 0.500 and a possible post-season tournament.
Your 4 conditions to keep Capel are very much out there speculation, no doubt. Possible that Lyke keeps Capel for another year, depending on what happens the rest of this year. The other 3 conditions are very unlikely.
