WOW!!!! Henderson declares for draft

Yea, he was sensational on special teams. Not so great as a WR. That being said, Devin Hester carved out a career as a return specialist.

Wow huge mistake for him in my opinion. Not a complete player in my mind. Makes me wonder if he was not part of the plan going forward at receiver and thought this was his chance.

It is Interesting that in his announcement he said after talking with his parents when most say talking over it with their parents and coaches. I hope it not a case where he had no choice but go. Unfortunately sometimes family issues force players to leave early. Family needs money, baby coming ect. Sometimes it the players just put themselves in a whole academically that they have no choice.

I think Whitehead will be the next to declare.

Sorry to see him go, I was hoping with a year in with the new OC he would get better/more touches next year. Good Luck Quadree!

Beyond the fact he hasn’t shown much as a WR, less emphasis on kick returns with most of them going for touchback these days. Granted there’s still punts, but yeah idk. Odds are against him succeeding in the NFL.

Will hope for the best for him though, his best case may be to develop to be like a Tyreek Hill type player?

Yeah I think this is a HUGE mistake! He may have personal things going on. But I don’t think he’ll get drafted. But I’m rooting for him though

Agreed and good point on less opportunities for a kick returner. I wish him well, but he must greatly improve as a WR.

First off, I wish him nothing but the best. He seemed to have been a good student athlete for Pitt who represented the University well during his time. I really hope he succeeds and proves me wrong.

But this is very odd. I can't see how a Return Specialist, even a good one, will generate enough demand for him to be drafted let alone drafted high. NFL kick returns are becoming less important by the week. Still have punt returns but other than that he doesn't help an NFL team anywhere else.

Again, wish him the best but this decision is puzzling unless there is something more to it that makes this move necessary.

Good luck to him.

Out of curiosity, just googled it...CFL players make an average of $80,000 a year and have a quota to limit the amount of US born players. Minimum around $50,000. I assume that's Canadian dollars. Arena league salaries are even lower post bankruptcy.

No one will draft him intending to play him at WR. Do pure returners ever get drafted?

He will certainly get invited to multiple camps and with his PR skills probably has a good shot to make somebody’s roster.

When making this decision I doubt he had any illusions about being drafted.

I tend to agree with the prior post regarding the CFL. That seems to be a more logical destination

Btw.....Tommie Campbell and Nic Grigsby playing in Canada

Wish him the best.

Opportunity for next man up.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

How are your return skills?
Do you have some eligibility left?
Not sure there is a next man for this position.
Speed isn't one of Pitt's player attributes these days unless I'm missing someone?
Had Moss not been irresponsible this might have been a place where he could fit in!

QH has been a blast to watch these past 3 years. One of the most dynamic kick returners I've seen. I hope he makes it in the NFL, but realistically, he's a long shot. He's a man without a position (except return specialist). He has never been productive as a receiver and he's way to small to be a RB in the NFL. Hopefully, he can make a roster as a return specialist, but there are a ton of talented returners who also are good position players. Going to be tough for QH, but hope he makes it.

I don’t think it’s a bad decision at all. He’s not ever going to develop into a good college WR, let alone one capable of making an NFL roster.

His only chance to play professional football is as a returner only, and those guys are all UFA. Why stick around returning kicks in college when you can take your shot to make money now and not worry about injuries in his senior season?

He has a lot to lose and very little to gain returning for a senior season.

Agree. Even though I was a bit surprised when I saw what I posted but came to the same conclusion. He’s not likely going to fly up the draft boards at WR and his return game is already well known. This year is as good as next year for his chances of being drafted or catching on and sticking as a FA.

The much better choice would have been to grad transfer to a Spread offense. He was a below average WR. Yes, he is an all-time great return guy but there's a lot of elite athletes in the NFL. Hard to keep a roster spot for a guy who cant play any position but returns

I suspect he will be drafted in the mid to late late rounds, depending on his combine performance, as a return specialist. Whether he can find his way into an offensive role remains to be seen. I think if he goes to the right team, with the right offense, they will find a way to use his talents. New England or the Rams come to mind.

Watson and our staff deserve some scrutiny for the way Henderson was used, or not used, this past season. I realize we had QB and overall offense issues all year, but the dropoff in his production from last year to this is staggering, and it wasn't because he lost ability. Canada recognized him as a weapon and made him a focal point of the O. It seemed Watson tried to cram a square peg into a round hole with Q. I'll never understand why we didn't make a concerted effort every game to get him the ball in the space between the LBs and safeties. Quick, easy throw for the QB, and there isn't a college LB on the planet that could stay with Q. Plus, once the D adjusts to overplay him, it frees up Weah and the other WRs downfield.

Is he in line to graduate soon? More than likely has to do with a family situation that we are not aware of.

He could also be frustrated with the (lack of) development he's gained as a receiver in the program? He was a Chryst recruit, correct? Maybe he's frustrated with the staff? All speculation on my part.

The outlook for career return specialists took a huge hit with the NFL kickoff rule changes.

He doesn't need to be a great WR, but needs to be able to be a serviceable depth-adding 5th or 6th WR to justify a roster spot long-term for most teams. His college WR resume doesn't seem to suggest he is near that level yet.

That said, I hope I'm wrong and he's wildly successful and adds to the Pitt-to-NFL success log.

Obviously we heard the rumblings this might happen, but never believed it.. Not sure he gets drafted. Awesome return guy, although he has some ball security issues and has just not shown enough as a WR for a team to invest a pick.. I hope I'm wrong because he seems like a good kid but not sure I understand the decision.

Eighth rounder, which would give him the opportunity to pick his spot. (Could stick with the right team, so better pick carefully.)

A lot of teams spend high on special teams players,he is going to get drafted and will get a shot in the NFL

I get it. If this is a mistake, its only because he isn't finishing his degree (although he may be close.)

He has absolutely nothing to gain by coming back. NFL scouts know who he is, and what he's capable of. Another year, even a highly productive one like last year, isn't going to help.

I think he sees that Switzer got drafted last year by the Cowboys, and is the team's punt returner in year one. Someone will draft him for the same role. Likely a lower round pick, but he'll be picking up a very nice paycheck for a few years.

Except that Switzer was a great WR too and left UNC as the single season and career receiving leader. He hasn't been called upon yet, but has shown capable as solid WR bench depth to justify the roster spot. Henderson doesn't bring this same NFL versatility.
