Looks like WPIAL football is no longer immune to players transferring out. WPIAL basketball took a beating, although some of the transfers were to local charter/private schools.

We'd probably be talking about North Hills as being one of the all time great basketball teams had Maleek Thomas, Parham, and Green(I think that was his name) not all transferred out.

The last WPIAL "stud" that went down there became a backup.

He's jumping on a roster with wolves. If Poggi gets involved the pool will soon like that 2019 team did with Blake Corum. That 2019 team's defense had a 2 deep with all power 5 kids. The entire DL went to the SEC.

That’s probably what is going to happen.

The other thing is I'm not sure how familiar he is with St. Frances but it's in the hood. It makes Aliquippa seem like Sewickley. Poggi took them from being a Baltimore City private school and bought housing and they brought kids in from all over the DMV and sometimes Philly. That style of recruiting got them kicked out of the MIAA, Maryland's private league. The education resembles Pittsburgh Public.
That’s probably what is going to happen.

In football, at these big-time high school programs, you have some rich people that will pay the tuition just to have their kid make the team. In some cases, the same thing happens at a D3 school in football. The coach will bring on a filler essentially to fill out the roster if the family has the money to pay full tuition.

At least that 2019 St. Frances team was almost entirely DC/Baltimore area kids.

Is Poggi the U of Michigan guy that worked for Harbaugh?

Football, boys and girls basketball, and track all beg to differ. Baseball too. Those rosters are almost all athletic scholarship kids and it's a Division 1 athletics clearinghouse.

I think one season about 5-6 years ago, there were 5 starting QBs for top 25 teams that were all IMG grads. every year, 4-5 top football prospects from my area (metro Detroit) leave strong H.S programs for IMG to increase their recruiting profile. All of them have ended up with P4 full rides and many have been impact players at the next level. None of them have been white kids with affluent parents.

I also have a friend whose son was the top H.S. shotputter in the country. He actually is a relatively wealthy suburban white guy. But his kid was identified early on as a prodigy, went to IMG for 4 years on a full ride, ended up throwing for Oregon, the best track and field program in the country.

D3 does not have athletic scholarships so everyone technically pays their own tuition, although most if not all athletes get some of it paid by grants based on academic merit or need.

Correct - I’ve heard some creative ways that schools like Mt. Union will use to land guys they want. If a school like that really wants you, then you aren’t paying full tuition and the stars of the team are getting compensated as well. It used to be through no-show jobs.
