Anyone watching? I’m not a fan and wasn’t aware of this, but if they win today they get promoted to the Championship(English 2nd division).

Has this rise through the football pyramid ever happened before so quickly? Every year since the Reynolds ownership has brought a new promotion. Right?

Might be worth a watch. If I knew where to watch.

Year 1, took-over late in the season. Team wasn't good.

Year 2 - lost in promotion play-off

Year 3 - won league, promoted to 4th tier

Year 4 - finished 2nd, promoted to 3rd tier

Year 5 - will finish 2nd and win promotion to 2nd tier

Year 6 - will play in 2nd tier and if they finish top 2, will win direct promotion to Premier League. If they finish 3 through 6, they have to win the playoff

Yeah. Next year if they were to play in the playoff, that would be absolutely epic. Might be a fun trip to make to Wembley.

Up 2-0 at the half.

It’s on Paramount+…by far the best streaming service.

First team ever to win back to back to back promotion.

That is not really accurate. There have been teams in the lower levels in England that have been promoted as many as four times in a row. However Wrexham is at a higher level in the pyramid than any of the teams that won promotion three or four times before.

Really? I just repeated what they said on the broadcast.

In any event, too bad Man U didn’t lose a few more matches. I would have loved to see them play Wrexham next year in a promotion battle.

BTW, one thing that is going to work against Wrexham going forward is that they were able to spend way more money than anyone before this season, and this year, while they "only" had the 3rd highest payroll in League One they were approximately 50% greater than the 4th highest payroll team, so they have had huge payroll advantages in their march up the pyramid. But starting next year that all changes. Obviously their payroll will increase next year, but nearly everyone in the Championship has a larger payroll than they did this year. And some are much more. For example, Leeds' payroll is about triple Wrexham's.

Their payroll likely won't be a disadvantage, but it won't be a huge advantage anymore.

Yep. The jump to the Championship is a huge one, particularly when you're competing with teams with deep pocket owners, parachute payments, or in the case of Leeds, both.

I saw that Wrexham has a new minority interest American owner. He and his family apparently became big fans after watching the first year of the TV series. They already have been to Wrexham and apparently are ready to put money to help with the payroll. But, probably not nearly enough to make them a powerhouse in the Championship Division.

One problem will be that the new grandstand at the home field won’t be done until the Summer of 2026. That will hurt ticket sales this entire upcoming season.

Let’s face it. Their owners have Hollywood actor money, but they have nowhere near the money of the wealthy owners who buy these teams as a hobby. And when the idiots who run British soccer allow teams like Chelsea to use the “profits” from the “sale” of their women’s team and two hotels to another company owned by the same owners to avoid violating the payroll rules, nothing positive is going to happen to balance the playing field.

One interesting thing I read about the Wrexham owners this weekend: McEleney got interested in buying and trying to save a soccer team after watching “Sunderland ‘Til I Die” about how the ownership and mismanagement caused Sunderland to be relegated and how it adversely impacted the entire town. So, he was looking not just for a team but for a team which was in a town which had similarly suffered from mismanagement. Too bad he didn’t pick the Pirates!

And Sunderland will be in the playoffs to be promoted to the Premier League!

They are billionaires, so they could, if they really wanted, pour a ton of money into the team.

I’m pretty sure that Ryan Reynolds is in the “Having F*** You Money” stratosphere, with Mint Mobile, the sale of Aviation Gin, Maximum Effort Productions, Nuvei Financial, and Password management software.

I read an interview with the father, who stressed that the family’s primary commitment is to charitable causes and that the total amount they invest in Wrexham will be limited by that basic belief in philanthropy.

Amazingly made the playoffs despite losing their last 5 matches. Six losses and a draw in their last 7, in which they scored a total of one goal. Not a lot of momentum going into the playoffs.

Sutherland scores on a corner at the death to advance to the final at Wembley!

I listened to some of today's extra time in the car on the way home. The announcers pointed out that with them losing 1-0 at the end of regulation they had now lost four home games in a row by the same 1-0 score. Unfortunately I was not listening at the end, but the way the announcers were talking a Sunderland win was going to be very, very much against the run of play.
