it's almost like it was under jopa. every dose...if any dose of info., is doled out like its some sort of secret. why can't you at least have writers at scrimmages ? for the last three day-there has been "zero"stories, in the PPG on pitt football. WHY ?

what's so GD important that you can't have free access to the pitt football program.

if your installing the wishbone offense .... take it to the indoor facility, then lock the doors.if you're running essentially the same offense why hide it .

Why do you care that much? Next Saturday you'll see the whole thing.

Position battles and progress some players are making are fun for fans. I used to look forward to these stories but now they are pretty pointless. I have no idea if Damar Hamlin will be ACC Rookie of the Year or if he'll ever be good enough to play a down.

As a fan I want to know more about the team. I not saying we need to know formations and trick plays but how about depth chart info, injuries, players who have stepped up?

I completely love that they close practices.

Honestly, outside of this site, and pittsburghsportsnow (minus Benz), the Pittburgh (misspelling intended) media is kinda harsh. And once you let a few in, then you have to let more in. Then you get Mike White, and the centre county guys, and god knows who else.

Keep up the closed practices! I dont mind letting the good reporters use their contacts and good reporting to get information

I hate that they close practice. They need to do whatever they can to create positice buzz with the local media, not lock them out. Pitt is missing free advertisement to it's fans and recruits by closing the doors.

I like them.closed also. Reading about a guy putting one foot in front of the other is like watching paint dry.
Reading 5 guys writing about the same guy putting one foot in front of the other is 5 times as bad.
There is a difference between journalism and reporting. I see very little journalism in sports and too much reporting.
There is nothing stopping anyone who covers Pitt to opine based on their own observations.
I think it is a little lazy to leave everything to "Pat Narduzzi said...". All I have to do is watch and listen.
In short, there is very little need for human reporters so long as video exists. Narduzzi probably wanted to work on some PSU stuff. His job is not to give his foe the game plan.

They should let a select few in, Beat writers, maybe someone from beaver paper, chris and let them cover practices. Build some rapport with them, make some "off the record" agreement about what they'd like to be kept hush hush and leave it at that. In short, do what every other college/professional team has done since the beginning of time..

That is hardly true. I mean a simple google search of "practices closed to media" shows USC, the Falcons, the Eagles, Rutgers, Oregon State, The Packers, and Florida State all had practices and scrimmages closed to the public and media, and that is just on the first page I checked.

And... by the way. It should be the reporter/journalist job to build relations with the team, not the other way around. Now, in our bizarro world in Pittsburgh where the media is so negative that you should perhaps open up, you do have a point, but you dont see this happening to the Steelers. Youd never see that at Alabama either.

I have no problem with closed practice.

Actually, it is probably beneficial for the coaches and players.

Watch the games and it will provide you (and opposing coaching staff) with all the information on what has been going on in those closed practice sessions.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

I remember a lot of MSU fans bitching about Dantonio closing practices the first few years he was at MSU.

I don't hear them bitching about that anymore.

Narduzzi has a plan. He knows what he's doing. Just let him do it.

The Best Coaches like to keep things quiet and known only to the team and players, game week prep and game day plans depend on execution practices and surprises when one choose 4 to 6 Plays out of 60 to 80 that can decide a game.

Narduzzi actual said in Trib shortly after he arrived, no one will know more about this Team than the coaches and what we plan to do, won't be open to discussion or made public.

I recall many times Coach Bill Cowher bragging before Playoffs Games when asked what Steeler would do, he said, what we always do, Run the Ball. Belichik after he beat them would say, I practice the Players telling them if we can stop Steelers Runs we win. Took Cowher a few years to shut up before games before he won his first Super Bowl.

Same with Jamie Dixon's & his Players always bragging in the Media how they are practicing and what they plan to do this or that in the next game, especially big mouth Krauser........then when UConn, Villanova, or Cuse Players were asked what they will do, they would say, we just hope we can play out best game, or working hard on stopping Pitt Players? Nothing specific like Krauser would talk about but not execute later and why often UConn, Nova, and Cuse advanced in NCAA's and Big went out early. Krauser would end up just saying after a close lost, I didn't get it done!

Talking what you are going to do, how you will play, and what you want to do before any game is a loser's trait, it puts pressure on you to execute your play, tips off the other players what you plan to do, and just look how bad Players like Terrelle Owens always a big mouth before and during games, then was silent after he lost wondering what happen.

With all the Weapons Pitt has and especially the abilities and versatility of some Pitt Players like Whitehead, Orndoff, Ford, and Hamlin why would one want to talk and tell the Media what and how they will be playing?

When Saban ran his Onside Kick Play after scoring against Clemson they were practicing that all week, and was a surprise to the entire media and especially Clemson and helped win the NCS Game!

When has the Pittsburgh media been overly sensitive to Pitt? Most programs keep things under wraps for both planning and focus. Game days there is plenty to see and discuss. Narduzzi is pretty open during his pressers anyway.

Historical Tradition.......that it has been proven the PPG sells out all its Newspapers after WVU or PSU beats Pitt in a Football game far more if Pitt beats them?

Newspapers are For Profit Corporations the crap they are Public Service Entities with Public Interests in mind was never a reality, they are about Profits or they don't Print anything?

if you own the PPG and have to cover Paychecks, and finds out you can sell all Papers out on Sunday after Pitt losing to WVU or PSU what you be telling your Editors to cover and why?

I have no issues. I don't think we're missing out on much. I mean, how many times under more open coaches would we hear about a player tearing it up in practice, only to do nothing during the games....

Now, I do wonder how much is revealed to recruits visiting a practice. For example, What was someone like Miles Sanders able to see, that he can now pass on to the psu camp?

It has been 17 years since PS beat us. You are going back quite awhile with that data point.

Agree, but not WVU though, just been a few years!

The PPG is still full of Pitt Haters in my view and why I won't read or buy it! When given one, used for Kitty Litter and Garbage Wrappings!

We were locked out..

Pitt is paying Narduzzi $2,000,000 per year to coach it's football team.
Just think of it this way; you are getting your $2,000,000 worth.

I think it's less about secrecy and more about eliminating distraction for players and coaches alike.

I agree - this is sports, football is a game, it is entertainment. What is so important about football - or basketball, since those coaches do the same - that it has to be kept a secret? Maybe the Russians will hack Narduzzi's and the other coaches' emails and we can get some information. You would think that Pitt would be trying to promote the team with as much information as possible.

Well.. being a game doesnt make it any different. You wouldnt let your opponent know what you are going to play at rock, paper, scissors would you. Sure in the grand scheme of things, it matters nada... as does any of this. In a thousand years we are all dead and forgotten forever... lol. OK, carry on :)
