WVU backup guards twice as quick as Pitt starters

With WVU's two starting guards on the bench with injuries they went toe to toe with their backup guards versus Baylor. Way better defensively and offensively than the Pitt guards. Tired of watching almost every decent team be able to drive the basketball and Robinson looks like he is allergic to penetration. People who think next year will be a great season are delusional as Robinson will be more of the same. If Jamie can't recruit guards better than Robinson and Wright, than maybe the USC job will open back up. After all Andy Enfield is doing poorly out there. Jamie should have left after Wichita State. The glory day are not only over, there buried!
And don't give me the flack about last year, Colorado was never a good team after Dinwiddie tore his ACL. There is not a guard on Pitt's current roster than can elevate the Panthers to a top 5 position in the ACC. The ability level of the guards on this team is disgraceful.

Yep. And now the OP is touting a hoopie "moral victory" in a 10 point loss today.

As a Pitt fan would you accept having those bad two seasons for a trip to the Final 4. And who knows the outcome if Butler doesn't get hurt. I'm a big Pitt fan and your missing my original point. Jamie struggles to find athletic guards when most of their opponents have at least one. WVU has 4 this year and Pitt point guard penetrates once a game. WVU recruited good juco guards and Pitt gets Haughton.

Seriously? Duke was ahead of WVU by 20 when Butler got hurt. Didn't impact the outcome of the game one bit.

those bad seasons..were THREE YEARS AFTER their final four.

So, that's a non-starter.
and no..I can GUARANTEE YOU the board would be VERY unhappy with the "direction" of the program to have back to back seasons like

2012-13 West Virginia 13-19 6-12 8th
2013-14 West Virginia 17-16 9-9 T-6th

Anyone who even hints about Dixon leaving in any way, as the OP did, cannot be taken seriously because of his lack of understanding of college basketball. Be frustrated, be mad all you want. I don't know of one Pitt fan who is saying "Yippee, we missed the NCAA's for the second time in 12 years (or whatever it is)". And yes, changes need to be made in the coaching staff and in the roster. But Dixon is not one of the changes, at least for the foreseeable future.

I also question anyone who places any value or validity on a WVU program that has basically been mediocre for the past few years and trying to compare that to the Pitt program. That doesn't fly. I agree that Staten is a guard we would love to have, but I don't know the circumstances. Hell, our guard play as a whole is abyssmal compared to most teams out there. But trying to tout WVU as superior to Pitt is a bit of a stretch.

The root cause of our problems this year has been our total inability to play defense and stop anyone on any team. If we can't play defense, and the current team can't, we will continue to be in big trouble if we expect to make the NCAA's. That has to change quickly. Recruit the fast, quick scoring guards and the imposing big men all you want. If they can't play defense, look elsewhere.

In the past 14 years.... Years that Pitt was better than WVU:

2002
2003
2004
2006
2007
2008
2009
2011
2013
2014

Years that WVU was better than Pitt:

2005
2010
2012
2015

Perspective, people.

well I think the op is correct in stating that we need to do what Huggy did with last years group. Purge and restock with athletes. WVU has had quite a run without their backcourt and their reserves are better than our starters.

There are a lot of JCs and Transfers on that WVU roster. Team not exactly stocked with Duke, UNC or even Louisville, Syracuse type players.

Perspective isn't something that message boards are known for. Comparing the 2 programs overall since 2002 just puts the WVU program in the proper light as a mediocre, middle of the road program and we have been superior to them for most of that time. Not this year, obviously, but most years we are better than they are and have proven it. Huggins can get a flash-in-the-pan one year of success by getting a couple of JUCOs to contribute right away. That doesn't make WVU a better program.

Nobody said they had a better program. Just that they have more success recruiting athletic guards consistently.

And how did it help them versus what we recruited? That's two losing arguments today. the big question is, will you go for the trifecta?

Huggy just got the 4th rated player in the 2015 JC class, 6'2"guard Teyvon Myers. He committed today and averaged 25 pts a game!
