Not too sure what to say about the upcoming game. I haven't checked team
ratings or the spread at this point. I have seen WVU twice on tv, and wasn't
particularly impressed. They've lost to Florida (away), and to an undefeated
Buffalo team in OT. Western KTKY somehow beat them. My guess is they've
been adjusting having lost their leader and best player from last year.
Despite all of this, they still have talent, and as is usual with our games this
year, they will have a decided advantage inside. Our young guys will be
facing a very hostile crowd; something they haven't seen this year.
Despite all this, I see a competitive game. I'm sure Capel worked us hard
this week after the Niagara loss.
I see us giving them all they can handle.

The only thing I have seen is the ESPN likely winner graphic: 88.8 % WVU vs 11.2% Pitt

Have not seen WVU at all.

Do they still press a lot?

Pressing teams generally dont like to be pressed. Wonder if JC will have the team pressure WVU a bit more than they have other teams to turn them over.

Will be interesting to see how the team responds. Not sure if they will win but I have to think we can expect their best effort this year.

Sounds like Huggy is beyond frustrated with his team:

"We got guys who, to me, prove what they can't do," Huggins said after the game. "They wanna go out and prove they can do this or they can do that when, in reality, I watch them everyday and I know they can't. I don't want to - and I don't think I've ever - put anybody in a box, but when you continue to turn it over and turn it over and turn it over. When you continue to miss shots and can't even hit the rim on shots, you probably shouldn't shoot them. We have three or four guys that continually do things they're not capable of doing."

No. It's going to be a pillow fight.

Worst Huggins team since 2012-13 and maybe the his worst ever at Wvu.Team is in disarray with no leaders on the court.Wvu doesn't press because of non athletic guards this year.It really doesn't look like a Huggins team at this time . Pitt could very well win this game because of their guards.Wvu's big men have vastly underachieving this year also.I might ask for some of my season ticket money back claiming the lemon law!

Kanata will eat us alive on the glass. I think we'll keep it close most of the game but they pull away late.

WVU 81
Pitt 68

And WKU is a good team. Stansbury bought a 1 and Done Center.

I'm not sure that WKU is good. They are 4 -4. Lost to Washington, UCF (both are decent) but also lost to Indiana St and Missouri St.

We have played an extremely weak OC schedule. Don't know if WVU is that good either. I think we will have wait until Acc play to see how good we are. One thing is obvious : We are much more athletic and that is a good thing.

Not close to past years. Huge drop off in G play without Carter & Miles. Yes they have rim protection in the back of the press. But those 2 made the press with their on the ball pressure. And on O they would make big shots. Bolden the main G this year is really inconsistent but does have ability.

They don’t press as much as the past. But yes I hope JC decides to press them like you mentioned. I watched the other day vs Florida and WVU has lots of trouble when Fl pressed. Bad turnovers & worse shots.

We have superior G play and they have a big advantage up front. They have a major advantage on the glass. If we don’t do a good job boxing out they will get a bunch of 2nd chance points.

Kontae is not playing nearly as well as he did last year. I think he is trying to show he can do more than he can to impress NBA ppl and it’s actually hurting him. Points are up but FG% is way down. And his shot blocking while still good is way down as well.

It would not shock me if we win but I think WVU wins a close one as they beat us up on the glass.

Wvu couldn't beat up my Alma Mater Cal u on the glass right now.Bigs are soft and not playing with any desire.Konate thinks he's a wing now not a center.Ahmad has hands of stone and seems uninterested in fighting for rebounds.Great game to give your young Panthers confidence for the year by beating a Big12 team on the road.I love Huggs but this team stinks right now.

Hmmm....Konate sounds like Mike Young his senior year.

I agree Konate is trying to play like a wing.

But you are wrong about rebounding. They may not rebound like years past but they are still a real good rebounding team. Since their first game they have out rebounded every single opponent. And they have out rebounded every single oppenet on the O glass since the 1st game.

Turnovers, bad shots, konate trying to play like a wing...all lost the game vs Fl. But they still won the rebounding battle and were +5 on the O glass. Pitt does not have to beat them on the glass but they can’t get killed for us to win.

Those 21 turnovers vs Fl were some of the worst turnovers I have seen in a long time. Huggins has to be furious. That’s why I hope we press them. Real shaky G play.

If Huggs doesn't get Konate's butt in the lane I see .500 as the best for this team.Huggs said in a presser this week that he has a player that listened to everything last year and has taken a 180 this year and doesn't listen.WONDER who this is?

Not enough offensive rebounds and put backs unlike the last 4 years.Wvu was very good on the oboards.Pressure will cause turnovers and it doesn't have to be full court pressure,Fla did it in the half court.Wvu can't handle the ball,Huggs has used 4 pt guards and none have done the job.

Yes that’s why I said they are not rebounding as well as the past. But still have beat every team but 1 on the glass.

You are right about handling the ball. They were really timid vs Fl.

After watching the game I would be surprised if our coaches don’t bring some type of pressure.

Ok thanks. I'll disagree with ESPN and give Pitt a much better chance than 11.2%.

Went up from 11.2% to 11.5% subsequently. Although I don't expect us to win at WVU-- I actually don't think the likelihood that we can win is that low. IMHO, we probably have at least one chance in three of winning--maybe a little better.

I agree. WVU is not as good this year. Their strength is not in their backcourt,
whereas ours is. If the game is played inside, we'll be in trouble, but that's our
challenge every game.
What I'm interested in is how we adjust. IMO they're are going to pack the lane
and not give us free driving lanes as we saw in our first several games. Niagara
was successful doing this, and I gotta believe that will be the blueprint in
defending us. They'll probably overplay Frame and try and not give him any
open looks. Niagara also did that for the most part.
If we can run a smoother offense and not just go one on one into the lane, I
believe we can loosen them up, especially if we can hit some jumpers.
I'm saying we upset them on their own home court. I like Capel, and I believe
he'll have em ready. I also like our toughness.

Huggins was in the cook and joe show this morning and said that Konate is banged up and might not play. He said they have some other guys playing hurt also

Konate hasn't wanted to play all year why would he want to play tomorrow? He's getting ready to be a lottery pick by not playing, great strategy.

I don’t think so. Huggy says Konate
is not playing.

Going to be much easier to drive to the rim with Konate out.

Maybe. I expect them to pack the lane. You don't need height to do that.

They will play tough D like they normally do. But taking away their rim protector can’t hurt us. He alters shots even if he doesn’t block them.

Good point. A good barometer of what's happening will be how many points
we get in the lane. When we get them it's usually a result of slashing to the hole. Also,we can keep our eye on how many and often we get whistled for offensive
fouls i.e. charges. If we do get into the lane and score, that would be great.
Konate not being there is to our advantage, you're right.
I want to see what we can do offensively besides going one on one. I gotta
believe Huggy will try and take the lane away from us. Let's see how we adapt.

It will be hard to gauge exactly how good our team really is, even after a game against WVU. But I think with our guard play, we'll give them all they can handle. We'll have to wait until the big boys schedule starts with ACC play to see how good we really are. Other than Iowa, our OOC schedule isn't up to ACC caliber.

WVU is a very mediocre team this year, I can’t see them winning enough games in the Big 12 to do any better than the NIT this season. As for tomorrow, konate is most likely going to miss the game, that is huge for us.

WVU played about as poorly as you possibly could vs. Florida. Now being it’s a Huggins coached team, you’d think they’ll be much improved Saturday. Or they might just really not be a very good shooting team. If that’s the case the konate injury is even bigger as that’s the one thing they could’ve guaranteed an advantage in no matter what.

Maybe just maybe Wvu will play better without Konate than with him right now!Something is not right in HuggyVille and it just might be Konate.Look for West and Ahmad to put up some good numbers tomorrow.See you all in the Coliseum tomorrow.
