You Want to Get More People at Heinz...

Win..
better than 5-7 seasons.

It takes more than winning. We were 6-1 in 2015 and 5-2 in 2016, had huge conference games against VT & UNC and no one came. Lowering concessions for families would help, but I doubt that the Rooney’s would go for it.

Sorry people always use small samples of winning like this as an example that crowds don't come even when Pitt is winning. It don't work that way folks. It takes YEARS a lot of YEARS of winning and BEATING TOP TEAMS. Put 3-4 Ten+ win seasons together and then fans will start showing up. Without doing that only us diehards will show up for the random non PSU/ND/WVU game.

Yes it takes consistent winning over years. In the short term cutting concession prices would help. We’re basically in the same boat the falcons are in. I done want to wait 10 years for crowds to come to games.

The concession prices at MBS is a point I bring up in every fan survey related to Heinz Field.

winning means in contention for the playoff, not in contention for just a conference title

Well, since MBS is in GA, maybe they learned that approach from these guys? I've been to the Masters several times; the last time a few years ago. Always for the actual tournament for the Saturday round. The concession prices shown below are the actual prices from 2017. And the food is GOOD and FRESH. The egg salad and pimento cheese sandwiches were especially delicious. At $1.50 a piece!

What's it matter why people go ?
As long as they are there and it appeases the constant attendance watchers on this board..
Do you think people go to the Pirate games to watch the Pirates play ?

We need as many casual fans as we can get because we sure as hell don’t have enough diehards to go around, and I don’t see us cranking out 10 & 11 win seasons anytime soon.

Pitt will not pay the going rate, we are suckers like Pirate fans to be very honest

Yep. A family is more likely to go if the food prices are affordable. You take young kids to the Pitt games and hopefully develop a new generation of fans.

I’m pretty skeptical that people are staying away from Pitt games due to the price of concessions
Sounds like a new boogeyman, like beer

As it is, the article didn’t say that more people went to Falcon games because of this, but that people bought more stuff, and arrived earlier. Not quite the same

Been to practice rounds the last 2 years and have Friday tickets this year.

The food there is unbelievably cheap and good.

Never seen anything like the way they get people through the lines at the concessions and bathrooms. Absolutely first class all the way, nothing is quite like the Masters.

One problem might be the some of the vendors likely paid a lot of money to have the right to gauge people during games. They wouldn't be too happy.

Do you bump into Conjunto Panther when you are there?

Of course not.....CP hangs out in the Butler's cabin while you nosh on buck fifty pimentos.....

I kid. Been there 5 times. Never gets old.

Pitt could do it (on their cuff) with coupons or incentives. But I think the last time someone checked, Pitt's gameday overall fan expense is already near the bottom of the P5.

How about we get them to make a burger or something and call it "The On-Campus Burger". It's only available on the top concourse so it's really hard to get to and it's wrapped in a tarp.

Would it come with three pounds of French fries?

Sorry, you would need to venture to Temple for that. Be happy with your Heinz burger on the big yellow bun. It's actually great because you can take the HOV hallway from your seat to the concession stands and it only takes 30 seconds. In Oakland you might need to walk 50 extra feet... and we can't have that. Oh the humanity.

all for the unbelievable low $100 (if you are lucky through a lottery, else a lot more) ticket price to get in to the place...pretty sure the Masters would sell out even if they had 5 dollar pimento sammiches...I had enough points for a free 12 inch sub at sheetz for the US Open at Oakmont right off a fairway, so I made out better than Augusta.

Right, for Pitt to draw big crowds consistently, they need to be a Top 10/15 program on a regular basis with a shot at the CFP in most years. Steeler fans simply arent going to care about even Top 20 or Top 25 teams.

Hey, I'm just spit-balling ideas here. If we're going to come up with all kinds of impossible or dumb ideas on this board, mine shouldn't be any more likely or smarter than anything else floated here.

Lets be honest, by college football standards are tickets are super cheap. A lot of that has to do with us not being a huge school in terms of overall student numbers (we are not one of the programs with community college campuses all over the place with lax standards) and also being in a market with multiple professional teams where we typically at least have two overlapping with our season.

I doubt this would make a difference. Pitt games are so cheap. But for selfish reasons I am going to pretend cheap concessions are the answer. Pass the hot sauce!

Yep. But that may still be a bargain compared to Falcons ticket prices at MBS. o_O

With the sad news from Neil Diamond this week that he has Parkinson’s and is planning to retire, Pitt needs to start marketing to his fans. Soon Heinz Field will be one of only a handful of stadiums in the country where they can gather to hear the man’s work.

eating a hot dog or a pretzel at 7 home games a year killing people nationwide...
im far from a health nut but even I couldn't care less about food options at sporting events. why don't you guys eat before or after the game? you cant take 3 hour break from putting garbage in your mouths?

The best and only way to increase attendance is to increase your student base, which turns into alumni base. Just saturate it. See most of the programs with good attendance and that is the driving factor.
