I've been reading about the transfer portal window and came upon an interesting note.
The transfer portal closes on Jan. 2. Everybody who wants to transfer for the spring semester has to be in the portal by then.
However, there is an exemption for players whose teams play a game after Jan. 2. If that's the case - either for the College Football Playoffs or a late bowl game - then there's an additional five-day portal window. So if a player on a CFP team wants to go in the portal but his team wins its semifinal game on Jan. 1, thus putting them in the national title game on Jan. 8, he can wait and enter the portal officially during a five-day window after that final game.
This is relevant because it means that even though the portal closes on Jan. 2, more players could become available from the two teams playing in the national title game. Those players could go in during a five-day window Jan. 9-13.
