Please don’t let it be true. I don’t want their deal to take Christensen off Chelsea’s hands to fall through. With all the Cup Finals Barcelona play in, it would be funny watching the guy who pulls out of matches with a tummy ache time and time again, do it for another big club.

The thing that makes this story all that much better is the head of La Liga bitching and moaning non-stop the last couple weeks that PSG has to be pulling some financial funny business to be able to afford the contract they gave MMMMBop-ay. And yet Barca was going on right under his nose and he said nothing for years.

The current plan is for Barca to sell off some of their future merchandising revenues and their future television revenues to raise money. The ultimate "rob Peter to pay Paul" strategy. And La Liga will have no problem with that.

I don’t think it’s true. They are on the verge of a deal brokered by Goldman Sachs to pay $3.9 Billion for 30% of their future media revenue.

That being said, their former President and his crew destroyed their financial footing. They all are under investigation for criminal as well as civil actions. At a minimum, they falsified financial reports made to the Cules (100,000 plus owners of the team) to show they were operating at a profit when they actually were $1.3 Billion in debt.

It’s hard to see how they got that far into debt without someone siphoning off a lot of cash. Yes, they made a lot of unwise transfer purchases for big money: Coutinho, Dembele, etc. But, so did Real Madrid (Bale and Hazard to name two). Yet, Real Madrid, which also is owned by supporters, is financially solvent. Winning 4 Champions League trophies to Barca’s one explains part of that, but by no means all of the difference.
