Buying up and demolishing entire South Oakland city blocks to build something new is a wet dream of mine. Nice to see Walnut Capital attempting this. I mean those houses are over 100 years old and most are in bad shape. If someone wants to buy them and tear them down, that's fantastic

Walnut Capital already owns most of the 100 year old houses that they keep in bad shape. The reviews for some of the properties Walnut Capital has in Oakland are terrible. I'm sure that new buildings would be better than old buildings, but it's not like Walnut Capital doesn't have a track record already for the way they maintain their properties. It'd just be a slumlord with a new building instead of a slumlord with an old building.
