the PG getting his team into it's offensive set's. JRob, when we face a team w/ bigtime athletes they are able to pressure him & take away any threat of him getting into the lane to pass or score. So what happens is we end up starting our offense further & further from the basket. You may not like Newkirk's play but at least he is able to put pressure on the D. JD takes away any of his confidence which means he play's on eggshells the second he get's on the court. He need's to build his confidence..let's face it this team does not have the components to go very far w/o his type of athletic play being a major part of this team. He automatically gives the team a threat from the PG position because he can create, score & pass.
The kid is a Sophmore w/ talent to be developed...JRob has shown us the same old same old for the 3rd year now....he is not a threat whatsoever as making his teammates better...he cannot get them the ball where they want it as scorers.
He may not turn the ball over much but at what result.
A good PG is able to breakdown a defense & distrubute the ball to players in a position to score. We have a awful ballhandling backcourt at 2 Guard(Jones & Cam would be average 3 man ballhandlers let alone 2 guard) All the more reason the PG needs to be a creator.
All I'm saying is groom, develop & mentor Newkirk now that he is young & we are struggling...it's not like we are gonna win a lot of games anyway. JRob is just not the player on a team w/ so few players that can create their own offense. JRob is not a bad player he is just a bad PG on this team w/ so little athletic ability at other positions.
Just a thought going forward.....We all know Newkirk has a big upside...he has shown it. Confidence is hugh for any ballplayer but as a PG it is vital that he know he is allowed to play w/o looking over his shoulder.

Hail to PITT !!!
