Based on RPI. Your body of work through the season helps qualify the weight. If all 6 wrestlers in the ACC were ranked in top 10, all 6 would qualify. On the other hand if one wrestler was ranked 20 and the other 5 were 5-20 for example. Only 1 would qualify.

How come 125 only gets two automatic bids whereas 184 gets five? Why a varying number of bids for the different weight classes overall?
From the Article:

"Each qualifying tournament was awarded pre-allocations to the national tournament based on regular season performance by conference wrestlers through February 19. The pre-allocations were determined by using a sliding scale of the three standards while never going below the base of .700 winning percentage, top 30 coaches’ ranking and top 30 RPI ranking until reaching the maximum of 29 wrestlers per weight class."

The ACC has more wrestlers 184 who meet the above criteria than 125, the system awards overall conference depth and not conference size.
