What a first half by Argentina. Total denomination. France didn’t have a single shot. Argentina won at least 75% of the 50/50 balls. That second goal was as perfect an example of quick, perfectly weighted diagonal passing as you will ever see. Absolutely textbook. Five passes. Four one touch passes. The pass to Messi was knee-high; he took one touch to settle it and then made a perfectly weighted pass to Molina.

Of course, Argentina was up 2-0 on the Dutch too and gave up two late goals. But this Argentine team seems driven. They are overrunning the French midfield. France can’t obtain possession in midfield to set up an attack. As long as Argentina doesn’t revert to going into a defensive shell and making stupid fouls, they should remain in control.

By the way, there was a post about Messi never running and playing defense. Hope you were watching the first half. He runs when he has to, and he was instrumental in shredding the French midfield when they did have possession in Argentina’s end. I counted five times when he was involved in a takeaway from a Feench player in the defensive end.
