In looking at the Hayes and DeShield's departures, both had agreed to NIL deals to remain at Pitt for the '24 season. When you agree to a NIL deal, does that not contractually lock you in, much like a LOI does for a freshman? If these players are now being paid, if they do a NIL deal, shouldn't it be an enforceable contract that binds a player to the Univ. for the period the NIL deal is for, which I assume is always 1 year at a time.
I am not a legal expert and do not know the rules and regulations around NIL.
Doesn't seem right to me that a player can lock in a NIL deal and then decide to leave 2-3 months later, even if the money is returned or not paid out. But then again, this appears to the be the absurd world of college football.
