Top 25?

Do we sneak into the Top 25 this week so that Tuesday's game will be billed as two ACC ranked teams competing @ Cameron Indoor? I went out on a limb and predicted we would get into the Top 25 with a 12-2 record. Let's see how the AP and/or coach's poll concurs. Another great team win tonight. Yes, there were more TO's than assists but after the beginning of the second half, there was no doubt as to who would win

For those who wager, did we cover? I didn't see the point spread prior to tip off

The Quarterback whose name shall not be mentioned gets some payback against the Stillers

Im surprised this has not been mentioned here.

Darius Slay credited Pickett with helping the Eagles defense prepare for what the Steelers were doing on offense while speaking on his podcast, Big Play Slay, Tuesday.

He also said that the Eagles “had to get the win” against the Steelers for the Eagles quarterback.

“Not (Jalen) Hurts, not Hurts,” Slay said. “We’re talking about Kenny, Kenny Pickett, because he’s a great dude. Without Kenny Pickett, I think our defense — I don’t want to say wouldn’t be great because we wanted to be great regardless, but Kenny has been giving us a great look on scout team.

“I’m talking about a damn great look even when we play scrambling quarterbacks, (when) we play guys with strong arms, because he can do it all. He’s got a strong arm, he can run around, he can make plays with his legs, everything. So, he’s done a lot to help us get ready and be ready for these games. So, shoutout to Kenny. We wanted to get this dub for you, too, because we knew how important it was.

“Everybody wants to beat the team that traded them away. Definitely like it was nothing, and his situation was like, hey, they brought in a whole new quarterback, two quarterbacks, another former first round quarterback, so I understand where he’s coming from. But yeah, we did that for you, Kenny. So, shoutout to my boy Kenny for helping us prepare for this week, giving us tips about what to look for because he’s been in that room with them.”

Here’s a fun offseason thread,

Which former Pitt player rising in the coaching ranks will get a head coaching job first? Tino takes over as the offensive coordinator at UCLA next fall while Mike remains in that same position at IU after making the CFP. Let me know if there’s someone who should be considered.

WPIAL football transfers

Looks like WPIAL football is no longer immune to players transferring out. WPIAL basketball took a beating, although some of the transfers were to local charter/private schools.

We'd probably be talking about North Hills as being one of the all time great basketball teams had Maleek Thomas, Parham, and Green(I think that was his name) not all transferred out.

Cant believe they gave Kenny Payne 2 years. Literally the worst coach in major D1 history. In this new era of free agency, you have to be at least mediocre in Year 1 and preferably a tournament team (look at WVU) and by Year 2, you need to make the NCAAT or get close. That's why I dont think Syracuse can give Autry another year but they probably will.

I watched the Pat Kelsey opening presser and a reporter asked him how long the rebuilding would take and he looked at him like he's stupid and said something like he expects to win right now and that he isnt patient. That is the opposite of Kenny Payne, who had a slow methodical 10 year plan.

Huge game on Saturday. Louisville is probably in the NCAAT at the moment and are playing well but we are better. Some of you saying Pitt is going to go 17-3 or 16-4 are going to be wrong though. That's why I posted that this 10 game stretch is important. Its mostly against NCAAT-type teams. Pitt is not good enough to skate through all of those games. We are going to lose some but hopefully not Saturday.

Does the defense change out of necessity next year?

I think I know what most people are thinking and I don't want this to be a bash Narduzzi thread, but an inquiring mind has to ask if Narduzzi's hand is forced to change his defense schematically a bit going into next year. I obviously dont see a complete overhaul but if we realistically look at what the defense was this year and whats happened in the portal for next year so far, i think changes have to be made for it to be a more successful season.

Narduzzi's defense absolutely MUST have a good pass rush from the front four and it MUST have excellent cover corners if it is to be successful. With that said, pitts DL really struggled to put a pass rush together this year and a bunch of those guys are gone now anyways. And when you have the lack of NIL funds that pitt has, finding difference making DL in the portal is going to be EXTREMELY hard to do, because pitt needs multiple of them and every team in the country is looking for the same thing. Pitts DE group doesnt appear at this time to have a difference maker AND theres no depth.

Which brings me to the back end of the defense. Gandy is transferring. And what this scheme requires of DB's is already extremely difficult (honestly sometimes ridiculous) WITH a disruptive front 4. Take that away and I just dont see how you can expect success on the back end since, again, it doesnt appear that there are difference makers back there either.

None if this is meant to be insulting to current players on the roster, its just a realistic view of how i see the x's and o's going into '25. All of this is to say, fans generally view Narduzzi as stubborn and unwilling to change. He made a huge change on the offensive side of the ball with hiring Bell. Is his hand forced to change defensively this upcoming year or does the defensive ship presumably sink deeper?
