Recruiting Update Updated list of confirmed visitors this weekend - one more added

We've been getting confirmations on transfers visiting this weekend, and the list now is up to six. We think there's maybe one more visitor and we're working to track that down, but here's what we've got on the six we know of.

Lawrence Hattar - Offensive guard, Ferris State
- D2 All-American and starting guard for Ferris State's national championship team this year

Blaine Spires - Defensive end, Utah State
- Youngstown native and former Bowling Green transfer was expected to have a big year at Utah State before he got hurt

Rashan Murray - Cornerback, Cal (Pa.)
- City League standout and D2 All-American had four interceptions at Cal this year

Andy Jean - Wide receiver, Florida
- Former four-star prospect from Miami who has caught six passes for 97 yards in five games at Florida

Kavir Bains - Safety, UC Davis
- Starting safety at UC Davis the last two seasons (plus six starts in 2022) had a big year this fall with 83 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 3 interceptions

Joey Zelinsky - Defensive end, Eastern Michigan
- A high school teammate of Gavin Bartholomew, Zelinsky had 67 tackles, 11.5 TFLs, and 3.5 sacks the past two seasons

Just confirmed one more:

Jaeden Moore - Defensive end, Oregon
- Redshirt freshman who played 100+ snaps and recorded 16 pressures as a reserve defensive end at Oregon this past season

Recruiting Update D2 All-America OL transfer planning to visit Pitt

Ferris State offensive lineman Lawrence Hattar tells me he plans to visit Pitt next week.

Hattar was a starting offensive lineman for Ferris State's national championship team this past season, and he was named an AFCA D2 All-American.

At 6'5" and 335, Hattar played guard for Ferris State, and it would seem like that's where he projects at his next school as well.

Midlands 29th and 30th

From the Pitt Release here are the guys coming
125: Colyn Limbert
141: Briar Priest, Anthony Santaniello
149: Kade Brown, Finn Solomon
157: Dylan Evans, Jack Pletcher
165: Jared Keslar
174: Luca Augustine
184: Reece Heller, Chase Kranitz
197: Mac Stout

This will be a short preliminary preview, once seeds are out I will be able to look a little more into matchups
Limbert is probably our 4th string at 125 but he has some solid results this season so hopefully he can string some wins together.
Nobody at 133 is unfortunate
141 we have both our guys in and this should be a good test for both of them. This 141lb bracket looks good but there are no clear top guys so if Ant is at his best he can get a win
Love seeing both Finn and Kade at 149. This weight is stacked with likely two top 10 guys, multiple guys Finn has lost to this year, and some other really talented guys
This is a weight with up to 8 ranked guys, but similar to 141 it is very open so a good day for Evans could see him really do some damage and rise in the rankings
165 has some good wrestlers and some chances for Keslar to get back on track with some ranked wins. Further, it is a weight where nobody jumps out as entirely unbeatable
This is a huge chance for Augustine to make some noise, the number 5 and number 6 guys in the country are at this weight. A win over either or both of these guys would really make a big impact on Luca's long-term NCAA seeding.
184 Glad both guys are going, hope Kranitz looks better than he did at the beginning of the year. Reece has a chance to bounce back from last weekend with a big win. He could see the Rider wrestler he lost to last week and get his revenge
197: Mac is one of 5 guys who all have around the same results this year. If he can put a big win out there today he can cement himself as a real AA candidate. He also has a chance to wrestle his brother Luke, and Poznanksi who knocked him out of NCAAs last season.
Overall I would expect that we have some good performances and hopefully some guys use this opportunity to showcase they are clear top 15 guys in the country and we can get our team out of everyone being in the 15-30 limbo

Justice Finkley

I might have missed this somewhere on the board, but has anyone seen the report that Finkley (Texas DE) has interest in Pitt? I couldn't tell if he has 1 or 2 years of eligibility remaining. I saw it this morning, but couldn't tell you who was reporting it, but now PGH Sports Now is reporting his interest. Of course, he has other schools interested (WVU, Miss. State, Minnesota, Cal).
I think he was an Academic All-American in '23, and would definitely fill a need, even though we have brought in a few DE's.

Updated future schedules with Duquesne added - One remaining question about 2025

With Duquesne officially scheduled, there's one remaining non-conference game that doesn't have a date yet:

Notre Dame at Acrisure Stadium

Pitt is currently locked into games on Aug. 30, Sept. 6 and Sept. 13. Notre Dame has commitments each of the next three Saturdays - Sept. 20, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 - but nothing scheduled for Oct. 11. The Irish could take a game that weekend or get an off week after playing six weeks in a row.

Beyond the six scheduled games, Notre Dame's only other game on the calendar is USC on Oct. 18.

Either way, it looks like Pitt-Notre Dame will be in the middle of the conference schedule (which has often been the case).

The Morning Pitt: 1/14/2025 - Did Pitt's receiver room improve this offseason?

With three transfers and three high school recruits, Pitt has added a lot of players at receiver this offseason. But did the Panthers improve? We're looking at the personnel moves in the receiver room on today's Morning Pitt.
